Tom Brady believes that franchises adapting the mentor system is smart. To support his hypothesis the seven-time Super Bowl winner spoke on how Jordan Love benefitted from sitting behind Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay Packers.

2023 was Love’s breakout season. After a year gap, the 25-year-old led the Packers into the playoffs and defeated the Dallas Cowboys at Arlington in the Wild Card game. Love finished with a commendable 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in the regular season.

However, Love had to wait three years to get his chance. The Packers drafted him in the 2020 season. Since then he sat behind four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers learning all the ins and outs of gridiron football.

Brady claimed Love’s remarkable first season as the starter in Green Bay came at the back of watching Rodgers play.

He had Aaron Rodgers to watch. That's the best type of training, in my opinion. Watch someone else do it at a very high level and then try to emulate them with your own personality.
Tom Brady said during Monday’s The Herd on FS1 segment with host Colin Cowherd

The 46-year-old added that it’s always presumptuous and tall ask for rookies to come in and deliver from week 1. However, most fail to live up to that level of expectations.

Tom Brady recalls being fortunate to learn from Drew Bledsoe at the Patriots

Like Jordan Love, Brady walked into a New England Patriots locker room all green. Unlike the Utah graduate, Brady was a 6th-round pick with few expectations.

Brady was fortunate enough to watch 8-year veteran Drew Bledsoe calling the shots. Not only that, the Patriots had Bill Belichick as their head coach who drilled the winning mentality into the players.

I could not have been the player without people like that impacting my career. In my first year, I had Drew Bledsoe to look up to. He took all the reps, I got to sit there from behind and watch him every single day. I had a real mentor to look up to in Drew.

He went on to have a legendary career winning Six Super Bowls with the Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Regardless, not everyone can be Brady. Several have tried to follow that path but so far the Michigan alumni sits at the top of the food chain. Maybe Patrick Mahomes or perhaps even Jordan Love can catch him someday.
