Tom Brady’s highly anticipated broadcasting debut on FOX Sports during the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys game drew mixed reactions. The retired NFL quarterback turned color analyst was a fresh face on TV alongside Erik Burkhardt.

Even though the former New England Patriots is famous for going through extensive preparation for any kind of assignment he takes over, this time around Brady appeared to be struggling.

A day earlier, Brady joined Joe Klatt, who was at his alma mater, Michigan, as the Wolverines faced the Longhorns. The 7x Super Bowl winner promised a good and balanced show, but judging from the fans’ reactions, his first coverage on live media did not go so well.

Football fans highlight several shortcomings in Tom Brady’s FOX broadcasting debut

Opinions varied from one fan to the other, who tuned in to catch a glimpse of Tom Brady covering a football instead of playing. However, the majority of them agreed that one area that Brady seemed to lack was communication with his colleagues. He seemed not in sync with the regulars.

“Tom Brady is clearly quite nervous in his NFL broadcasting debut. Kinda funny to remind yourself that the greatest quarterback to ever do it is still a human being at the end of the day,” one X user wrote. Some even branded his debut as the worst in NFL TV history.

However, Gary Lezak, a former Chief Meteorologist in Kansas City, defended Tom Brady,

I spent 38 years in broadcasting, and he is a rookie on his first day. I can tell he is very nervous, and it isn't something that gets better instantly. He will get much better, so give him some slack. And, let's see him improve in the next few weeks.

After the Cowboys won 33-17 against the Browns, Brady was given the special power to award one player whom he saw was the best in the game the ‘LFG Award’ (Let’s Fuc***g Go). The 46-year-old chose Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons as the inaugural recipient of the trophy, which is a half-cut football with Brady’s signature.

I get an opportunity to give one award per week, and you get the LFG player of the game. What a game you played. It’s fun being up here and not having you chase me around, so to see you from this perspective, man, you played a great game today; you impacted the game with rushing, and you get so many double teams out there, but you still find a way to make an impact. Way to go.
Tom Brady said

I appreciate it, man. I take everything you taught me over this off-season. Using and forcing in this game, and I appreciate this. It means a lot coming from you.
Micah Parsons replied

Brady may not have met fan’s expectations in his debut game, but he is a rookie, and it takes time. Well, he will be around for the next decade and earn $35 million, so eventually, he will get good at it.
