Tom Brady GOAT comparison the new QB curse? Veteran analyst believes Patrick Mahomes suffered similar fate as other greats

Patrick Mahomes entered Super Bowl LIX with his Kansas City Chiefs set to become the first team in the history of the league to achieve three-peat. Had they done so, the superstar quarterback could have launched himself into the GOAT conversation. Currently, Tom Brady holds that monicker.
Brady has won seven Super Bowls, the last of which was with a different team and in a new system. However, winning three straight Super Bowls was something no team had ever accomplished. A quarterback leading his team to such a feat would have been a serious step for his Hall of Fame credentials.
Along with that, a Super Bowl MVP could be the icing on the cake. By now, many would have confirmed that they have seen enough to place Patrick Mahomes beside Tom Brady in the GOAT debate. However, veteran analyst Colin Cowherd believes that is where the problem started.
Every time somebody gets close to Tom Brady, and you start talking about ‘Hmmm, maybe Tom’s not the GOAT’, bad things happen. Mahomes just turned in the ugliest Super Bowl performance arguably of our lives. In a game of inches, Brady is several hundred yards from number two.

The veteran analyst cited the examples of Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning. He mentioned that ever since both of them were touted as being better than Tom Brady, their careers haven’t panned out. Brady has outplayed any other quarterback for a longer time in his career. That is enough evidence for Cowherd on who the GOAT is.

Colin Cowherd believes the problems started when people compared Patrick Mahomes to Tom Brady. Throughout the regular season, he did not play well as a quarterback. But more importantly, his Super Bowl LIX performance showed that he is nowhere near the GOAT conversation.
It’s not just that he lost. It’s for the second time in a Super Bowl, he was awful. Didn’t adjust, overwhelmed, looked shook. It was not just losing, whatever that was, that leaves a mark.

Others have echoed the FS1 analysts’ opinion. That horrendous performance will go against him for at least some time. If he wins another two Super Bowls along with being named the MVP, he can enter the debate again.
Else, as per Cowherd, the GOAT debate does not exist. His now FOX Sports colleague is the only player in NFL history good enough to be called that. The only other quarterback who can come close is the legendary Joe Montana, and he never had a game like what the Chiefs QB had.
