The Las Vegas Raiders moved on from head coach Antonio Pierce after just one full season. Since then, owner Mark Davis has been involving minority owner Tom Brady in his search for the next head coach. However, with several candidates lined up for interviews, they took another step to clear their house.

Antonio Pierce was let go, even though he managed to rile the team up to win two of their last three games. However, it was a bit too late as their mid-season form saw them lose ten straight games. In the midst of it, Pierce seemed to have lost the locker room that once pushed Davis to sign him full time.

In the aftermath, questions about GM Tom Telesco‘s future came up. Mark Davis was busy fielding interviews with potential head coaching candidates and the one thing that stood out was that many candidates wanted GMs to be in line with their vision.

Top candidates have sounded out that they do not want to come into a situation where they will be at odds with the front office. This probably played its hand as Mark Davis fired Telesco earlier today. With Tom Brady serving as advisor, it is possible he agreed to this principal knowing how his past coaches managed their positions.

Both the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers had head coaches who had the final say in personnel decisions. If that is what an incoming coach wants, Davis firing Telesco paves the way for them to start with a clean slate.

Tom Brady to influence Mark Davis in selecting next head coach and GM

Many have reported that Tom Brady will sit alongside Mark Davis and a team to determine Raiders next head coach. With Tom Telesco out, it is also possible that Brady will help decide on their next GM.

The Las Vegas Raiders have lined up interviews with Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. Adam Schefter revealed that former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is also scheduled for an interview. They also are in line to interview top candidate Mike Vrabel.

All of these candidates might want some degree of control over personnel decisions. On top of it, Carroll and Vrabel are candidates Brady knows well and admires. The seven-time Super Bowl champion might have seen enough to suggest that his team take a fresh approach.

A new head coach along with a new GM with similar visions would be the best way to start. The Raiders have a few cornerstone pieces in place. However, the most pressing need is a good quarterback. Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew have not been good enough.

With the draft low on elite prospects, Brady might ask them to trade for a capable veteran. Kirk Cousins‘ situation in Atlanta could work in their favor. They could also keep the current QBs and take a chance at the better prospects scheduled to declare next season.
