The NFL world woke headed into the night with rumors that Tom Brady was actively recruiting Matthew Stafford. They apparently met at a ski resort in Montana and the Las Vegas Raiders minority owner was canvasing the QB to join his team.
It was Brady’s FOX Sports colleague Jordan Schultz who broke the news first. This sent football publications off the charts as they scrambled to cover the topic as fan engagement started to heat up. With the Los Angeles Rams probably looking to part ways, the idea seemed logical.
No other team was better placed to pay Matthew Stafford the $50 million he was seeking. At the same time, the team would get a solid veteran to lead the line. However, a few hours into the story and NFL Network, a media house run by the league disagreed.
Ian Rapoport started to clarify that according to his sources, this was not a planned recruitment trip. Rather, it was a coincidental meeting which his colleague, Tom Pelissero confirmed after speaking with Tom Brady’s agent.
After this, as per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, an incensed Schultz walked over to Ian Rapoport who was at Starbucks at the JW Mariott hotel in Indianapolis and said.
JS: We need to talk.
Mike Florio quoted
IR: We don’t need to talk.
JS: If you have anything to say it to me, say it to my fucking face. If this continues, we’re going to have a f**king problem.
At this point, Ian Rapoport asked Schultz to step back. The FOX Sports Insider stepped back after seemingly repeating his last line. The NFL Network Insider then called for security who stepped in to break up the situation.
Matthew Stafford to Raiders talk is gaining steam
Ironically those threatening words Jordan Schultz spat at Ian Rapoport came about as he was standing in an establishment where his father was the CEO. Or maybe he was incensed at the fact that Rapoport embarrassed him out in front of the whole world.

Either way, it may have worked in the favor of the Las Vegas Raiders. Ever since the original story published, a Las Vegas reporter revealed that rumors have gained pace that the franchise may actively look at Matthew Stafford. They, however, might not be willing to give their No. 6 draft pick up.
So much talk here in Indianapolis about Matthew Stafford and the @Raiders. Per a league source: "It's picking up steam"

But the Los Angeles Rams might take a pair of second rounders too if they can get that astronomical contract off their books. They have a backup in the form of two-time CFP champion Stetson Bennett on their roster. He could be the bridge as they look to sign or draft another quarterback next season.
