It takes a lot to rile up a cool customer like Robert Spillane. Even he seemed ticked off to hear about Tom Brady‘s thoughts about the Patriots’ chances of winning Super Bowl LX.

The Patriots are back in the mix for football’s biggest prize after a six-year hiatus. The last quarterback to lead New England to victory was none other than Brady himself, earning the team its sixth championship ring since 2000.

The current crop of Patriots wants the former face of the franchise to back them in their quest for a seventh title. The 48-year-old left them hanging. While appearing on FS1’s The Herd, Brady politely declined to pick a side. He wished both teams the best of luck.

The veteran linebacker’s facial expression changed. He said:

Personally, it makes me sick… At the end of the day, [he’s a Patriot]; he has a dog in the fight. So for him to say that, it is what it is.

That said, Spillane quickly hinted at why Brady didn’t choose a team to win. He quipped

At the end of the day, he’s an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders now, so he has to do what’s best for him

Brady officially became a minority owner of the Raiders last year. Moreover, he also covers games for FOX Sports. There’s also the possibility of Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak taking over as the next head coach in Vegas. So, it makes sense for him to stay neutral.

Regardless of the reasons, Brady has created a rift between himself and the Patriots fandom. Even his former teammates expressed disappointment and demanded an explanation for his stance.

Robert Spillane’s injury update: Will he play in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks?

Spillane finished as the Patriots’ leading tackler in 2025. So, it caused some concern when he skipped practice on Wednesday. He rejoined practice the following day and assured that he’s completely healthy and is ready to take on the Seahawks quarterback on February 8.

I’m still 100 percent confident [to play in the Super Bowl]. I’m going to continue to trust the people that take care of me and do everything I possibly can, day or night, and put it in God’s hands at this point. Continue to prepare as a starter and go out there today, practice, and put it on the line.

Spillane missed the final four games of the regular season due to an ankle injury that has bothered him ever since. Yet, it has done little to slow down the big linebacker while he has been active. Spillane finished with 97 combined tackles, 5 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, one forced fumble, and 1.0 sacks.

In three postseason games, he racked up a career-high 14 combined tackles and 2 pass deflections. This included two tackles against the Broncos in the AFC Championship game.

Spillane signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Patriots in the past offseason after spending the last two campaigns in Vegas. The Western Michigan alum has tallied 594 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 24 pass deflections, 8 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries over 99 games.
