Jayden Daniels burst onto the NFL scene with an amazing rookie season with the Washington Commanders. Daniels threw for 3568 yards on a 69% completion rate, 25 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He further added 148 carries for 891 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.
Voters picked the former Arizona/LSU starter as the offensive rookie of the year. The Commanders reached the NFC title game in three decades. It was arguably one of the finest rookie seasons any quarterback has ever had in NFL history.
The future looked bright for Daniels and the Washington franchise. However, an ankle sprain in week two of the following season forced him to miss a couple of games. Injuries continued to pile up. In week seven, Daniels hurt his hamstring and two weeks later dislocated his shoulder. Even though doctors did not deem it serious in the initial diagnosis, the Commanders later placed the 25-year-old on IR, essentially ending his year.
According to league sources, Daniels’ recovery is going well, and he’s expected to participate in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic. Daniels, Tom Brady, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts are slated to be the quarterbacks for the event.

Ahead of the game’s historical kickoff on Saturday, all the bigwigs gathered at a Fanatics event where Brady roasted Daniels for missing game time and his relationship with his mother.
I haven’t seen Jayden [Daniels] on the field in 7 or 8 months. I’m just happy his mom let him play.
Tom Brady joked
Of course, the seven-time Super Bowl champion is referring to Daniels’ tight-knit relationship with his mother, Regina Jackson. Jackson also works as her son’s manager and previously made headlines for sharing her views about Jayden’s dating life.
Tom is right about Daniels’ long absence from the gridiron. His last official game was in early December. Washington went 2-5 with Daniels as the starter. He completed 114 passes for 1262 yards, threw 8 touchdowns, and ran for 2 more.
Brady also began his broadcasting career with FOX Sports in 2024. In January, he had the chance to call a Washington game. During the post-game show, Brady awarded Daniels with the LFG Player of the Game trophy for his performance. Daniels asked Brady what “LFG” stands for. The former quarterback cheekily stated that he does not have the clearance to say it out loud on live television.
The Commanders switch to plan B after failing to land WR1 to help Jayden Daniels
Terry McLaurin has been WR1 for the Commanders for quite some time. With five straight 1000-yard seasons under his belt, “Scary Terry” looked set to take the next step in his growth last year. He was well on his way to adding to his streak until the Pro Bowler picked up an injury that kept him out for several games.

McLaurin missed seven games and finished with 582 yards and 3 touchdowns. Even though he is on a three-year deal, the Commanders searched for a second target man for Daniels when free agency opened last month.
One of the names that came close to moving to Seattle turned out to be Alec Pierce. According to John Keim of ESPN, a source said that the Commanders would have absolutely signed Pierce if he had not decided to extend his contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Pierce agreed to a four-year, $116 million contract, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in football.
That does not mean the Commanders have given up on adding to their front line. They have now switched their attention to the upcoming draft in Pittsburgh. Heavy.com‘s Evan Massey believes that the Commanders could target Alabama standout Germie Bernard, who spent his junior year with the University of Washington football team before transferring to the Crimson Tide. Throughout his four years, Bernard totaled 155 catches for 2,203 yards and 13 scores.
