The 2024-25 Super Bowl was unique. On the field, Patrick Mahomes—considered by many to be the current GOAT of pro football—lined up in the Chiefs’ red, and at the same time, arguably the greatest quarterback ever, Tom Brady, took his seat in the announcer’s booth, covering Mahomes’ every move.

The fun dynamic kept the audience glued to their TVs and phones throughout the fixture. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Chiefs’ camp early on.

Mahomes failed to take control of the game, and their opponents, the Eagles, scored 40 points. He salvaged some pride near the end by adding 22 points, but the three-peat slipped out of the Chiefs’ hands. The Eagles lifted their second-ever Lombardi Trophy.

Mahomes wasn’t at his best throughout the regular season. Even though Pro Football Focus ranked the 30-year-old the best QB in the league, he struggled to kill off teams when required. Steve Spagnuolo’s defense saved the Chiefs several times. However, their luck ran out against the Eagles in New Orleans, right in front of Tom Brady’s eyes.

Tom Brady is more supportive of Patrick Mahomes than one might be led to believe

Brady witnessed Mahomes and the Chiefs crumble. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts dominated the AFC West franchise from start to finish.

Despite the poor end result, Brady remained supportive of the player who many consider may surpass the seven-time Super Bowl winner at some point.

How can I throw shade at someone who’s as amazing as he is? I know what he’s been through…I’m in now as a broadcaster; I do feel a responsibility to tell the fans what I see and be honest and upfront about everything. But also realize that what these guys are doing on the field is extremely difficult.

Tom Brady said during an interview with Complex Sports

Brady’s first year in the booth drew mixed-bag reactions from fans. Some really enjoyed his candid views as a former player, while others felt he struggled to control his emotions as he was a former player.

Sometimes I may come off a little too critical, so I’m trying to make sure I have the right tone. I was tough on my teammates… I was fiery and competitive. I want to make sure that doesn’t… I want to see the game evolve and grow.

Patrick Mahomes Admits Having “Extra Motivation” After Super Bowl Loss to Eagles

Losing to the Eagles was a massive blow to the Chiefs’ dynasty. Mahomes was one step closer to overtaking Brady in the GOAT conversation because even the 47-year-old did not win four rings in five seasons. Brady won his fourth Lombardi 10 years after his third.

It’s impossible to alter the past, but Mahomes can learn a lot and refrain from making the same mistakes in the next season.

It’s hard. When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there’s sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger.
