When asked why he had made this decision and how he felt about it, the 30-year-old nearly choked up and appeared visibly emotional, struggling to speak. After gathering his composure, he admitted that it was difficult for him to talk about.
The interviewer told him that the entirety of the UK was proud of him and that it was incredible to have him back. Daley nodded and said that he was proud of himself too. However, he had to hang it up at some point and was going out being incredibly proud of his career. He simply felt that this was the right time for him to make this call.
This year, Daley got the opportunity to perform in front of his family and be the flagbearer. He said that these things felt like a bonus, and his entire bucket list had been ticked off. He also earned a medal in his name this year. The British diver won a silver in the Men’s Synchronized 10m Platform event.
