Washington Capitals star Tom Wilson has slowly started to become a villain in the eyes of the Montreal Canadiens fans. After his massive fight in Game 3 with Josh Anderson, the alternate captain of the Capitals delivered a massive hit on Alexandre Carrier in Game 4.
The Capitals entered the field on Sunday following a massive 6-3 loss in Game 3. Following the feisty altercation between Wilson and Anderson, the Habs came out flying in the third period of that game and scored 3 goals to take Game 3.
In Game 4, the Habs came back from 1-0 down in the first period to lead 2-1 in the second period through goals from Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield. The game turning moment came in the third period when Tom Wilson delivered a massive hit on Alexandre Carrier.
The Caps No.43 came rushing towards Carrier and took him out while trying to gain control of the puck again. There was no penalty call on this from the officials.
Just 15 seconds later, the Capitals leveled the game at 2-2 with a goal from Brandon Duhaime. Check out the video of this game-changing hit from Wilson from X below:

Tom Wilson comments on his huge hit following Game 4 win
Tom Wilson‘s hit on Alexandre Carrier completely changed the game for the Washington Capitals in Game 4. His hit on the Habs star not only led to the game tying goal but also saw the momentum shift towards them.

Following the game, Wilson joined the NHL on TNT panel to discuss the game. During the interview, the 31-year-old expressed that the playoff games are more “physical” than others.
Playoffs is extremely physical. They’re hitting. We’re hitting. You get hit. You give hits. Last couple of games, I spent a lot of time in the box. Coming into this one, I just wanted to play between the whistles, play hard.
Tom Wilson said on NHL on TNT
"They're hitting, we're hitting, you get hit, you give hits…"

As per NHL stats, a total of 60 hits took place in Game 4 between these two sides. The Capitals had 26 hits while the Canadiens were more aggressive and had 34 hits. Meanwhile, Game 3 had 71 hits, with the hosts having 45 of them.
Tom Wilson taunted the Canadiens fans following an empty netter
Following Tom Wilson’s hit on Alexandre Carrier, the Washington Capitals took complete control of the game. The Capitals’ star then rubbed salt on the wounds of the Montreal Canadiens with an empty net goal to seal a 5-2 win. After the goal, he taunted some home fans.

With the Habs trailing 3-2 in the final few minutes of the game, they decided to remove their goaltender for an extra attacker. This move back fired on them as the Capitals broke away and saw Brandon Duhaime get his 2nd goal of the match.
Despite this, the host still kept their net empty and kept on attacking. Once again they lost control of the puck. Connor McMichael would then set up Tom Wilson for another empty netter.
During the celebration of his goal, Wilson would go near the protective glass wall and scream at the Canadiens fans while banging his hands on the wall. Check out a video regarding that from X below:

The Capitals can now seal the series with a win in Game 5 at the Capital One Arena. If the Canadiens come out victorious in that game, then the two teams will return to the Bell Centre for Game 6.
