Tom Wilson was not a fan of Matt Rempe's hits on Alex Ovechkin and decided to confront him during the recent Capitals-Rangers game.

During the recent Washington Capitals vs. New York Rangers game, things got a bit heated between Tom Wilson and Matt Rempe. The two of them would get into a fiery confrontation. Following the game, Wilson named his teammate and captain Alex Ovechkin as reason for having a word with Rempe.

The Capitals captain is currently chasing the goal scoring record of Wayne Gretzky. In this match, he notched up his 885th goal and reduced the number to create a new record to 10.

One thing that many fans do not want at the moment is to see Ovechkin get injured. “The Great Eight” suffered an ankle injury in November when he got accidentally hit by Jake McBain. This caused him to miss several weeks of action.

Rempe, on the other hand, is known for his fighting abilities. The Rangers youngster has time and again squared off against some big names and has also delivered some huge hits to his opponents leading to suspension from the NHL.

With that in context, Wilson did not want Rempe to bump into Ovechkin. Following the match, the Canadian international revealed that he does not like people bumping into his teammate.

Yeah, he bumped into O (Alex Ovechkin) a couple times. I just told him, ‘Anybody else, but him.’ I don’t like it when guys are bumping into O.

Wilson, though acknowledged Rempe’s play and praised his skills. The forward star claimed that he made a “lot of noise” and worked hard during the game.

This is not the first time when things have flared up between these two players. During the Stanley Cup playoffs last year, the two of them ran into each other. Wilson, however, turned down the chance to fight him. Rempe eventually had the last laugh as his team swept them in the first round.

Matt Rempe is obviously not afraid to throw down his gloves and fight anyone. He also does not hold back on delivering some big hits, which has often led to many fans criticizing him. Following the recent Capitals-Rangers game, the 22-year-old issued a stern warning to Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin.

While speaking about the confrontation with Wilson, the Rangers star revealed that his opponent kept on shouting “Don’t hit Ovie!” Rempe was in no mood to hear that and decided to have a direct confrontation with Wilson.

He was yelling at me, ‘Don’t hit Ovi! Don’t do that to Ovi! Don’t hit Ovi! I told him I’d hit anyone I want.

As per the NHL play-by-play tracking of the game, the youngster landed two hits on Ovechkin. Both of them came in short time span of each other within the second period. Fortunately, nothing major happened to the 39-year-old Ovechkin.

As for the game, Tom Wilson turned out to be the hero for the Capitals. He had two points in this game which included the overtime winner for his side. With this 3-2 win, the Capitals improved their season record to 40-14-8. As for the Rangers, this loss took their overall record to 31-26-5.
