Tommy Chong and Charles Barkley

NBA icon and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was infamous for his trash-talking prowess during his playing days. Barkley, known for his competitive spirit, never shied away from engaging with those who taunted him. However, there was a notable occasion when a prominent actor and celebrity managed to rile him up.

Tommy Chong, the 85-year-old actor and comedian, shared his story of heckling Barkley from the stands. In the recent episode of ‘All the Smoke’ podcast, Chong explained exactly how someone could get under Barkley’s skin. The actor was invited to a Clippers game when he decided to go at Barkley.

Charles Barkley was the other guy and I saw that Barkley could get affected if you heckle him, but you gotta heckle him properly... Talk on your normal voice cuz' they can hear everything. So I'm sitting there, I say, 'Watch Barkley, watch him'. He's ball hogging, he won't pass the ball until it's too late. And then next thing you know he pass the ball and it's too late. Barkley got so pissed and I'd do it in such a way that I wouldn't be looking at him... So Barkley didn't know where it was coming from and he came over to the guy next to me, 'I'll f*** your mama'.

Chong narrated the tale in a comedic fashion. Barkley, being the star player, didn’t take well to setbacks and often let his frustrations show. However, despite his own penchant for trash-talking, Barkley found himself on the receiving end of it back in the ’90s.

Charles Barkley talked trash majorly in the NBA Finals

The closest Barkley ever got to winning a championship was back in 1993. Chuck’s Suns faced Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Scottie Pippen and Barkley were going at it throughout the game. However, as the game got down to the last possession, Charles Barkley had made some big-time shots. Despite this, Pippen wasn’t backing down.

In the end, Pippen got the last laugh, as the Bulls won their third straight championship. Barkley did pretty good for himself in that series, dropping 40-bombs, though he couldn’t back up his trash talk. Later, the two teamed up in Houston, but things did not get better.

While the legend doesn’t have a championship under his name, his career is definitely among other Hall of Famers. His trash talk will forever be known as the most intimidating and terrifying from the 90s era.
