Real Madrid owe the draw against Bayern Munich to two of their stars – Toni Kroos and Vinicius Jr. The latter scored both of his team’s goals on a tricky night while Kroos expertly set up Vinicius’ first with a killer pass. Bayern Munich were comfortably in control of the game up until Kroos decided to take matters into his own hands.

Madrid went ahead in the 24th minute completely against the flow of play when Kroos spotted a pass that probably no one else on the pitch could! His inch-perfect pass dissected the Bayern defense and set Vinicius through on goal. Kroos’ line-breaking pass was so good that Vinicius had a one-on-one with Manuel Neuer.

The Brazilian then proceeded to place his shot past a Neuer who hesitated to close him down. Much to the delight of the fans, Vinicius was seen bowing down to Kroos in admiration of his pass after scoring the opener.

Many labelled last night’s game as the Kroos show, and rightly so. Surprisingly, it was Kroos’ first goal contribution this season in the Champions League!

Bayern Munich held by resolute Real Madrid in exhilarating first leg clash

Either side have all to play for when Real Madrid have host Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu over a week from now. The ‘kings’ of the competition were pushed back with ease by an invigorated Bayern side in the opening minutes of the game. However, Vinicius Jr. grabbed the opener in the 24th minute as Bayern launched attack after attack to get back into the game.

Their breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Leroy Sane fired an unstoppable shot past Andriy Lunin at his near post. A few minutes later, Jamal Musiala was brought down by Lucas Vazquez, only for Harry Kane to comfortably give his side the lead from the penalty spot. Just as Bayern could see the win, Real were given a way back into the game by Rodrygo Goes.

His dribble inside the area culminated in a poorly timed tackle, to which the match official pointed to the spot. Vinicius’ penalty to the right of the post fooled Neuer as the final score read 2-2. Unfortunately, Serge Gnabry did not score a goal, as predicted by Thomas Tuchel.

In the second semi-final, Paris Saint-Germain make the journey to Signal Iduna Park to take on German side Borussia Dortmund.
