Toni Kroos has been nothing short of an internet celebrity ever since the midfielder announced his retirement from football. The German hung up his boots at the end of last season and played his final game with Die Mannschaft at UEFA Euro 2024. Despite having a brilliant season for both club and country, Kroos finished ninth in the Ballon d’Or ranking.
On a night in which Rodri became the first Spaniard since 1960 to win the award, Kroos, who plays in a similar position, finished eight spots behind. While many fans even claimed that Toni Kroos had a ‘better’ season than the winner Rodri himself, others argued that Kroos finished where he deserved to be.
As the winners were announced, Kroos took to X, as he posted a message in response.
Wow. Thanks a lot.

Fans even urged him to not hold back and go on a rant about the Ballon d’Or and how Vinicius Jr. deserved to win.
French legend slams Real Madrid for ‘small club’ conduct at Ballon d’Or ceremony
Real Madrid are one of the most successful and strongest clubs in Europe. However, things did not go their way during the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony as star man Vinicius Jr. was snubbed of the award. After learning of the plot twist just hours ahead of the event, the club opted not to send a delegation to Paris.

In response to the same, former French National team head coach Raymond Domenech called out the club.
Turns out that it is a very small club. What it did is absolutely pathetic. They showed a lack of respect for football.

Fans have also expressed outrage on similar lines, with one fan claiming that Los Blancos behave as if the world revolves around them. Another said that Real don’t start a game unless they know the end result and that the Ballon d’Or loss helped reveal their arrogance and idea of superiority in the game. Real even released an official statement after the ‘unexpected’ result in the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
