What better occasion than the UEFA Champions League final to say ‘goodbye’ to one’s boyhood club! Real Madrid took on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday night as the 2023/24 season came to an eventful end.
From crunching tackles to costly errors and marvelous performances, the final had it all. However, the fact that both Toni Kroos and Marco Reus were playing their final games for their respective clubs made the occasion even more special.

Kroos joined the Los Blancos back in 2014, and simply put, the rest is history. The midfielder defined an era at Real Madrid, winning multiple La Ligas and 5 Champions League titles in ten seasons.
As if to make his parting moment even more beautiful, the No.8 picked up his final and probably the most significant assist of the season by setting up Dani Carvajal‘s opener against Dortmund.
Reus on the other hand has spent almost all his career with BVB, making 294 appearances and scoring 120 goals in the process. The club legend said goodbye to his fans and teammates as Madrid won their 15th Champions League title!
Fans react to Marco Reus and Toni Kroos calling time with their respective clubs
To leave Real Madrid as someone with the joint-most Champions League titles in history is no small feat. Legendary midfielder Toni Kroos played his ‘last’ game of club football as Madrid beat Dortmund to the UCL title by two goals to none. The No.8 bagged an assist thanks to a perfectly placed corner met by Dani Carvajal.

A fan commented that one player won trophies (Kroos) while the other (Reus) won hearts. During his twelve long years with Dortmund, Reus has grown into a club legend, with his ‘haters’ being close to none.
Many felt bad for Reus, having lost two Champions League finals in his career. Others pointed to how Kroos won his first and last UCL title at Wembley. Fans felt that football hasn’t been fair to Reus, and that only one of the two could have a fairytale ending.
Goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. did the job for Madrid as they claimed a record 15th UCL title, at least 8 more than any other club in the world. With the UCL secured, Madrid completed a majestic treble which also includes the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
