Moments after his decision to retire, the player was trending all over social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter). At best, Kroos will get to play nine games altogether for both club and country, given Germany reach the final of the Euros. What’s surprising is that Kroos can win both the UCL and the Euros in his last nine games.

Toni Kroos ‘breaks’ the internet with shocking retirement decision

No conversation about generational midfielders will be complete without Toni Kroos. The German maestro, at the age of 34, has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the 2024 Euros in Germany. Out of the hundreds of thousands of messages, the one that stood out was from Lucas Vazquez. Kroos’ Real Madrid teammate did not find his decision to retire amusing and replied with ‘F**k you‘.

Kroos laughed at the same in his reply. His timeless midfield partner and magician on the ball Luka Modric simply stated that it was fun (their time together at Real Madrid). Modric’s future with the club is also uncertain.

Karim Benzema, Casemiro and Gareth Bale all wished the Madrid No.8 a happy retirement. As the footballing world prepares to say goodbye to yet another magician of the sport, one can only stand back and admire the legacy he’s left in the game. From winning five UCLs to multiple La Ligas and many more, Kroos will forever remain a legend of the sport.
