‘Novak Djokovic is the ultimate rival for Rafa on clay:’ Toni Nadal
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
Novak Djokovic is the king of Hard courts. He has won nine Australian Open Grand Slams and three US Open’s. He is so competent on the hard courts because he is a great mover on the fast surface, and the court’s texture adds speed and effectiveness to his ground strokes and serve.
His defensive abilities are also world-class due to his ability to slide on the courts whereas his opponents usually cannot. The fact that Djokovic is great on all fast surfaces is given credence by the fact that he has five Wimbledon titles as well.
But then how does he measure up on clay? Djokovic on clay is good, he has one French Open Title, ten masters title, and overall fifteen titles on clay. Needless to say if not for the brilliance of Rafael Nadal on clay, the Serbian would have had a few more French Open titles as well.
Toni Nadal thinks Novak Djokovic will pose the biggest challenge to Rafa on clay
Recently, Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Madrid Masters, it came hot on the heels of his unceremonious defeat at the hands of Aslan Karatsev in the Serbia Open semi-finals. Djokovic actually has not started the clay court swing well, before this he had also lost to Dan Evans in the Monte Carlo round of sixteen.
Speaking on Djokovic, Toni Nadal said that Djokovic will find it tough when he comes back on clay in the next tournament, Rome Masters, he will have more doubts. But, Toni remains adamant that Novak Djokovic is the ultimate rival of Rafael Nadal on clay.
Toni Nadal said, “Djokovic will have more doubts in the next tournament he plays, but he is one of the players who can change quickly if he plays a good match. He is the ultimate rival for Rafa on clay.”
