Rafael Nadal‘s uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal, has shared a positive update on his nephew’s condition ahead of the Davis Cup. The 38-year-old recently announced that the Davis Cup will be the last time he steps onto the court as a professional tennis player.
Speaking to Radio Marca, Toni said that Rafa has been training hard at his academy. In terms of physical condition, Toni believes the left-hander is in the best shape he has seen in a while.
I’ve been watching him in training in recent days and I can say that he’s training at a very high level. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen him in such good shape.

Rafa is no stranger to injuries, especially over the past two years. He has acknowledged that these recent injuries have contributed to his decision to retire.
Rafa has not played an official singles match since losing to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Olympics. However, he appeared at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event, where he was seen sharing an emotional embrace with his longtime rival, Djokovic.

Nadal’s long-time rival, Novak Djokovic, has expressed a strong desire to attend the event in Malaga. Tournament Director Feliciano Lopez noted that organizers are overwhelmed with requests to attend Nadal’s farewell. Space is one of the biggest concerns, as fans and players alike want to be part of this historic moment.
Roger Federer may also want to be present for Nadal’s last match, just as the Spaniard attended the Swiss’ retirement at the Laver Cup in 2022. Still, the Davis Cup team may find it hard to gather all the stars for Nadal’s send-off, as some guests may not want to wait up to six days in Malaga for the event.
