Carlos Alcaraz has become a player for all kinds of surfaces after claiming his first French Open title by beating Alexander Zverev in the final. Toni Nadal believes the youngster is on track to becoming the best player of all time.
At just 21, Alcaraz has lifted 14 tour-level trophies in his career, with four on hard courts, eight on clay, and two on grass. His achievements have led Toni Nadal to believe the Spaniard is destined for greatness.
Writing in his column for El Paris, Toni Nadal praised the 21-year-old for living up to his hype as the favorite in all competitions. He pointed out Alcaraz’s recent triumph in Paris, where he won his first Grand Slam on clay and his other two Grand Slam titles, Wimbledon on grass and the US Open on hard court.
He is the youngest tennis player to win three major tournaments on different surfaces and, of course, one of the most successful at just 21 years old. All this data and the sufficiency and great tennis quality that he shows in the most important events does nothing more than let us intuit that in a few years he will become one of the best players of all time.Toni Nadal wrote
The Spanish coach then described how he initially wrote about Carlos Alcaraz’s promising position during the French Open final but was surprised when Alcaraz lost focus and Alexander Zverev won the third set. However, Alcaraz quickly regained his form, increased his intensity and dominated the remainder of the match.
Nadal noted that Zverev’s frustration and mistakes early in the fourth set allowed Alcaraz to take control of the game. He then praised Alcaraz for his champion-like composure on the court.
Carlos Alcaraz opens up on calendar after French Open victory
Carlos Alcaraz will be back on the court for what he hopes will be a great grass season. The 3-time Grand Slam champion will be competing at the Queen’s tournament which starts on June 15.
He will be using the tournament as a preparation for Wimbledon which begins on July 1. Alcaraz will have the opportunity to defend his title and perhaps make it four Grand Slams ahead of the US Open.
I will play in Queen’s, Wimbledon and the Olympic Games. That’s my closest calendar. If everything goes as planned, of course.Carlos Alcaraz said via as.com
He will be aiming to carry his French Open form into Wimbledon and perhaps win it more easily than last year, with Novak Djokovic not participating in the competition. Alcaraz will also be hoping for more titles as he partners with Rafael Nadal for the men’s doubles at the Paris Olympics.
