Rafael Nadal‘s encouraging season has been robbed by two recent disappointments. The Spaniard is still struggling with his body but his age hasn’t helped him either to reach his expectations this year.

Nadal was hoping for a good French Open after arriving early in Paris and practicing well. But, his hope diminished after drawn to play Alexander Zverev in the first round. The Spanish star played better than he did at the Italian Open a few weeks ago, but that wasn’t enough to beat the in-form Zverev. He lost 3-6, 6-7, 3-6, ending his campaign for a 15th Roland Garros title.

Besides that, Nadal had his best performance of the season at the Madrid Open. The 37-year-old won his first three matches, playing comfortably, and even earned his first Top 20 win of the season against Alex de Minaur. However, he lost to Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16, receiving an emotional farewell ceremony at the end.

Meanwhile, after Nadal exited the Roland Garros yesterday, his uncle Toni Nadal revealed he was sad about the loss. He added that if Nadal had won two matches, he would have challenged for the title.

When I was asked if he could go far here, I said that with a little luck in the draw and two or three wins, he would become one of the favorites in the tournament. It's true that I was very sad today (Monday) and we leave sad because when the last point arrives we say to ourselves 'it's over'. But in the end, we know it has to come to this. Is it really over? I don't know. I don't talk about tennis with my nephew, .

Despite the defeat, Nadal is yet to confirm whether he played his final Roland Garros match against Zverev. Rafa is now looking forward to recuperating after two years of troublesome injuries.

Nadal explained that he will need a two-month break ahead of the Paris Olympics which is going to be played at the Roland Garros court.

But give me two months till Olympics, and then let’s see if I am able to keep going or I say: ‘OK guys, it’s more than enough.’ Let’s see.
