‘Tournaments behind closed doors are very poor and difficult to play’: Toni Nadal

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has been consistently affecting life in general since March last year has impacted the sporting world too. The matches played in stadiums have to played without crowds which has left many players frustrated.

In tennis, all tournaments post resumption last year were played in the absence of crowds barring the French Open where limited crowd was allowed. This year however, we saw full crowd in the initial stages of the Australian Open. However, in the Monte Carlo Masters, no crowd was allowed due to the surge in the COVID cases in the country and in France.

Rafael Nadal‘s uncle and former coach Toni Nadal is currently coaching Felix Auger Aliassime and was present with the young Canadian in Monte Carlo. He was against the tournament being played behind closed doors and said that it is very poor and difficult to play behind closed doors.
