Tony Ferguson speaks out on why he teamed up with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach!

Tony Ferguson
Tony Ferguson has been amping up his training routine after suffering back to back losses. ‘El Cucuy’ had a 2020 to forget, as his impressive 12-fight win streak was snapped at UFC 249, at the hands of Justin Gaethje, who took the fight on short notice. He then faced Charles Oliveira at UFC 256 on the 12th of December, and was completely dominated by the Brazilian, to the point of people calling Tony ‘washed and finished’. Tony is now scheduled to take on Beneil Dariush on the 15th of May at UFC 262, later this year.
Following his recent dismal performances, Tony decided to tweak his training routine and began training with legendary Boxing trainer Freddie Roach (who has trained Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de La Hoya). Earlier this week Tony took to Instagram, to reveal why he decided to join hands with Freddie Roach.
‘It’s Better To Be Sore Than A Sore-Loser‘ – Tony Ferguson
Tony Ferguson wrote, “Coach Armand Anthony” I Used To Not Get Hit. Then I Changed Things Up A Bit. Had -2- Figure It Out After Getting Hit More And More Each Fight. Decided Not To Take Any more Unnecessary Damage Made The Mandatory Changes Promised My Faith/Family/Friends I Would Not Take Damage Like The Last Few Fights When A Corner Of Mine Wouldn’t Work On Simple Slip Drills I Knew I Had To Make Changes.”
“When A Cornerman Forgot Water During The Round Mid Fight I Knew I Had To Make Changes. When I Got Sick and Tired Of Being Sick and Tired, I Did Something About It, Quit Bitchin’ & Went To Work. Lots Of Cool Things Coming Up, Been Working Hard. Ferguson Seriously. Champ Shit Only Love you My Son Armand Anthony, My Best Friend. Thanks For Running Practice Fergalish w/ The Comida Assist, Thanks Mamacita.”
Tony Ferguson will be looking forward to getting back to winning ways when he takes on the ‘hard-as-nails’ Beneil Dariush, who is on an impressive 6 match win streak. A win for Tony might even earn him a title shot, since he hasn’t moved out of the top 5 in the lightweight rankings (he is currently ranked number 5).
And, this is not the first time fighters have taken an interest in training with Freddie Roach. Recently, Ben Askren who has been training for his boxing debut against Jake Paul, next month, said that Freddie Roach has to be one of the greatest trainers he has worked with. Askren said, “He was great, I picked up quite a few things from him and I’ve had the luxury of being able to work with quite a few good people but he would be at the top of the list.
