Tony Ferguson and Beneil Dariush
Former UFC interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson says that he is hungry to make a comeback than ever before. The fighter has been gone from the octagon for quite some time now ever since his defeat against Charles Oliveira. In a recent interview, El Cucuy says that he is determined to comeback with a bang.
In a recent interview, Tony Ferguson talks about his matchup with UFC #9 ranked lightweight fighter, Beneil Dariush. Tony’s last bout was against the current title contender, Charles Oliveira at UFC 256 in the co-main event. El Cucuy faced defeat making it his second consecutive defeat in the year.
Tony has upgraded his training from a Varsity level to that of an Olympic. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Ferguson spoke about his past fight and his current state of mind. “Instead of a varsity mentality I went back to an Olympic mentality and I started surrounding myself around people that are hungry, how I am and how they’ve been for a long time,” Ferguson said.
He then spoke about firing one of his corner man after a dispute. “After the (Oliveira) fight I immediately went back to the drawing board,” Ferguson continued. “I went back to the hotel and started hitting mitts or Thai pads and trying to figure it out. I ended up firing one of my cornermen because he big-leagued one of my other guys,” he continued.
Tony Ferguson feels he got too one dimensional with fighting
Tony Ferguson is scheduled to fight lightweight fighter, Beneil Dariush who has great experience in the game. Both the lightweight fighters will be fighting at UFC 262 on the 16th of May. Beneil has a record of 20-4-1 and is looking to move up the ranking charts.
In the interview, Tony Ferguson was asked about his opponent and El Cucuy spoke with respect about Dariush. “He’s been doing the game for a long time,” Ferguson said about Dariush. “He’s over at Huntington beach with Rafael Cordeiro. He’s a southpaw, he’s very strong on his left side. He’s very game in mixing it up. So, that’s why I’ve been mixing my shit up.”
The fighter was also self critical about his fighting style over the years. “I got too one dimensional. When you get too one dimensional, you start to plateau. I’m hungry as fuck and I’m back. I’m really back on it, man. And I’m mixing it up really, really well, better than a fuckin’ blender,” ended Tony Ferguson.
