Once touted as a serious threat to WWE’s business, Tony Khan‘s AEW hasn’t been at its best lately. And writing off some of their red-hot stars for no reason has only exacerbated their woes. One of those who’s been on the receiving end of it is Ricky Starks. He hasn’t been put back on TV since late March despite being healthy. Recently, Tony was caught off guard merely by Starks’ name.

After this week’s AEW Rampage taping, a fan at ringside conversed with Mr. Khan for a second before asking him to put his initials on a signboard she’d brought with her. It read, “WE WANT RICKY.” After seeing it, Tony started stuttering and even murmured he can’t do it before turning to its backside.

In essence, he tried to dodge the bullet, but his shaky demeanor has reduced him to a laughing stock on social media. Clearly there’s more smoke than fire to the deadlock between Starks and AEW. In late November, the 34-year-old star made a surprise appearance at a GCW event.

He went completely off and vowed to recuperate on his dwindling career. Originally, he was set to wrestle Matt Cardona on December 14 as part of his independent bookings. However, shortly after his scathing promo, AEW pulled him from all of his planned GCW dates. That came out of nowhere.

Khan and his company were believed to have re-established communication with Starks after months of no talks. On top of that, Ricky was spotted backstage at AEW Full Gear. Fans thought he was back on good terms with AEW. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. He’s still under contract with them, which reportedly runs through the summer of 2025.

Tony Khan gets laughed at on social media after awkward fan moment

As mentioned above, Tony Khan‘s change of look after realizing that the fan asked him to bring Ricky Starks back was hilarious to many. Social media these days is ruthless, and how the folks on X could’ve let it pass through?

One poked fun at Khan for turning into interview mode when he uttered “I can’t” to sign a signboard. Another one said they were having a bad day at work and this video made them laugh. One fan told the original signmaker that she should’ve written her message on both sides so that Khan couldn’t have ducked it.

Many pleaded with the AEW CEO to release Starks at this point to where it’s getting embarrassing for him. A joke was also made on Tony, where a fan said he feared for his life, which was a reference to the verbatim he spewed after firing CM Punk last year.
