Ex-Stewart Haas Racing boss Tony Stewart has explained his feelings about the current NASCAR leadership, compared to the past ones.

The 2024 NASCAR season saw some massive changes in the sport with the sanctioning body making new decisions and policy changes regarding racing. The charter wars and the lawsuit filed by 23XI Racing and FRM were another major incident this season. All of this exposed the issues with the NASCAR leadership, compared to its past.
Ex-NASCAR Cup champion Tony Stewart in the latest episode of the Cars and Culture podcast with Jason Stein talked about this change among the leadership. He pointed out that the sport is missing nig charters like Bill France, Jim Hunt and Mike Helton. They were people that who fits the big picture.
While further talking about the point, Tony Stewart pointed out that the current senior officials of the sport lack the character, compared their former counter parts. He believes the current officials doesn’t have the guts to make string decision as they are afraid, they would lose their job over any mistakes.

In the same podcast, Tony Stewart shared his feeling about former NASCAR senior official Mike Helton who has made some significant decision that changed the sport forever. The veteran racer sees him as one of the three greatest people that shaped him life and he have the utmost respect for Helton.
The points made by the Hall of Famer seems rational and something the racing community needs to look into. Strong leadership has been the foundation of NASCAR’s success in the past, and now they need it more than ever to thrive in the future.
