The 2024 WTA season was full of historic victories and creating new records. Indeed, some of the important successes on the court weren’t written before it happened. However, the season was also full of memorable moments, some of which broke the internet.

From Jasmine Paolini finally taking a selfie with her idol Rafael Nadal to Barbora Krejcikova stunning the tennis world at Wimbledon, we will take a deep look at some favorite/viral WTA moments that got fans reacting in 2024.

3) Coco Gauff’s maiden Olympic Games

In 2023, Gauff stunned the world by becoming the youngest since Serena Williams to win the US Open. The American earned another career milestone over the summer when she was selected as the Team USA flag bearer for the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The 20-year-old was nominated by her fellow compatriot and ATP player Christopher Eubanks.

Gauff stood beside Basketball star LeBron James during the ceremony on a boat. The World No.3 was super excited that they took several photos alongside some popular USA athletes. Among them were track star Noah Lyles and rugby player IIona Maher. She also had a special selfie with fellow WTA teammates Danielle Collins, Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Desirae Krawczyk.

However, Gauff won her first two opening matches in Paris but exited the tournament after losing to eventual silver medal champion Donna Vekic 6-7, 2-6 in the third round.

2) An X user predicted Barbora Krejcikova’s Wimbledon victory

Barbora Krejcikova secured her second career singles Grand Slam after beating Jasmine Paolini in three sets at the Center Court in Wimbledon. The Czech Republic star was emotional after the match as she unexpectedly matched the achievement of her late mentor, Jana Novotna.

But, Krejcikova’s triumph was written before the tournament began. Hours before the women’s singles draw was released, an X user predicted that the player who will draw Veronika Kudermetova in the first round will go on to win the Wimbledon Championship.

It eventually happened and that player turned out to be Krejcikova, the No.31 seed. She beat Kudermetova, Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko, and Elena Rybakina before her hard-fought three-set victory over Paolini. No one would have ever predicted the outcome better than the X user.

1) Jasmine Paolini finally gets a selfie with Rafael Nadal

Two popular legends during the 2024 season were Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal. The former played his final match at the Olympics, while the latter hung his racket at the Davis Cup Finals. However, it was Nadal’s retirement that was more widely celebrated than Murray’s. Athletes and legends from around the world paid tribute to the Spaniard.

But Jasmine Paolini had other plans as well; all she wanted was to get a selfie with Nadal. During the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and Davis Cup Finals, which were held at the same venue in Malaga, Paolini sneaked into Nadal’s training session. The Italian wrote on social media that she’s getting close to her goal.

Surprisingly, three days later Paolini revealed that she finally achieved the goal after posting a photo of her and Nadal. The 28-year-old also made the BJK Cup Finals a memorable one by helping Italy win the title.
