The WTA ranking saw a lot of movement this season. Several players like Ons Jabeur and Jelena Ostapenko, who began the year in the Top 10, ended outside the spot. Even Iga Swiatek, who ended the 2023 season as World No.1 slipped to No.2 as Aryna Sabalenka overtook her.

However, in this article, we will only look at players who climbed the highest (ranking jumps) in the WTA rankings in the 2024 season. Especially those who were outside the Top 200 like Emma Raducanu and Naomi Osaka, but then leapt towards the top by the end of the year.

3) Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu began the 2024 season after being away for almost a year due to injuries. In January, she was ranked World No.301 and failed to kick off her campaign as she desired. The British star struggled until the grass seat where she produced some spectacular results that helped her climb up the WTA rankings.

The former US Open champion reached the semifinals of the Nottingham Open and then the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne International. Her best spell was at Wimbledon, where she got to the fourth round before losing to Lulu Sun in three sets. Though Raducanu missed several tournaments during the Asian swing she finished the year as World No.57 (achieving a 244 move up the WTA rankings).

2) Amanda Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova wasn’t very popular throughout the season, yet she relentlessly worked hard every day on the court. The 23-year-old was World No.373 when the 2024 season and began her rise at the Australian Open. In Melbourne, she began as a qualifier and reached the fourth round, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka.

After being sidelined for a while during the middle of the season, she produced another stunning result at the North American swing. She reached her maiden WTA 1000 final but eventually lost the title to Jessica Pegula. She climbed more than 337 places in the WTA rankings finishing the year as World No. 36.

1) Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka began the season as an unranked player after missing the entirety of the 2023 season due to maternity leave. She returned to the tour in January but her comeback was not pretty straightforward. She was hugely inconsistent in terms of her performance and was unstable in her ranking position at the beginning.

However, thanks to some great displays at Italian Open and China Open, where she reached the fourth round and the round of 16 respectively. The Japanese star finished the season as World No. 58.
