The WTA has been famous for winning streaks since the turn of the 21st century. The likes of Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Victoria Azarenka earned some of the longest winning runs in women’s tennis. But, in 2022, Iga Swiatek rose to the occasion by producing a 37-match unbeaten run, which is tied for the 12th longest run in the Open Era.
In the 2024 season, the Polish star looked in sight to reach her incredible record but came short in the end. However, she was the only player to achieve a 20+ match-winning streak. After the Top 3 in the list, some unfamiliar names completed the list of winning streaks. Karolina Pliskova earned eleven match consecutive wins, while Qinwen Zheng claimed 12.
This year, several players enjoyed some extended unbeaten runs during the campaign. Here, we take a look at the longest winning streak in the WTA Tour this season.
3) Aryna Sabalenka – 15 matches
Aryna Sabalenka began the year on fire by reaching the Brisbane International final before losing to Elena Rybakina. However, she earned a six-match winning streak in Melbourne and successfully defended her Australian Open title. She did well during the clay season but lost to Swiatek on two occasions.
It was during the North American swing, that Belarusian finally found her form. After losing in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open, Sabalenka went on to win the Cincinnati Open and consolidated it with a US Open victory. She continued with the momentum at the China Open until Karolina Muchova ended her 15-match winning streak in the quarterfinals.
2) Danielle Collins – 15 matches
Danielle Collins had announced at the beginning of the 2024 season that she was going to hang her racket after the campaign was done. But after achieving excellent results on the court and attaining lofty heights, she made a U-turn and decided to continue playing. The American didn’t begin the year brightly.
Nonetheless, her second-round loss against Iga Swiatek at the Indian Wells Masters was the turning point of her season. The 30-year-old bounced back at the Miami Open and went unbeaten throughout the tournament to claim her maiden WTA 1000 title. She became the lowest-ranked champion in history and was World No.53 at that time.
Collins didn’t back down; at the Charleston Open, she defeated Daria Kasatkina to win back-to-back titles. Her winning streak ended in the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open against Sabalenka.
1) Iga Swiatek – 21 matches
Swiatek began the year as World No.1 but she had to wait until February to win her first title of the season at the Qatar Open. She picked her second at the Indian Wells Masters the following month. The Polish star was heading to the Stuttgart Open as a favorite after winning the title for the second straight season.
But, she was beaten in the semifinals by Rybakina. She, however, bounced back at the Madrid Open and then went up two gears by winning the title and following it up with Italian Open and French Open victories. The 23-year-old’s winning streak ended at Wimbledon after losing to Yulia Putintseva at the All England Club.
