Vercetti organizes a huge elaborate plan and gets what he wants: revenge. He robs banks, he kills, he backstabs and takes no backtalk from anybody all for power. Having all the characteristics of a powerful main character, this protagonist goes #1 on most liked players in GTA on the list.

2. Carl Johnson [CJ] (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas)– Protagonist of the most liked GTA game, San Andreas, Carl Johnson comes second on the list. Players generally love to play GTA San Andreas because of its sentimental and heart-touching storyline. But the major credits go to the developers of the protagonist who made the character so vulnerable that people could feel the gameplay and storyline to such extent.

CJ is a smart and calm character, totally opposite of Tommy Vercetti. He is sleek, smart, careful and uses cunning strategies. He meets a lot of people throughout his journey and is respectful towards everyone. This characteristic makes him more acceptable and more believable as a person in respect to the real world. CJ gives Caesar, a character portrayed by Sweet as a murderer, a chance. He helps out a hippie, who is supposedly working for the police initially, and gets him as an ally in his journey. 3. Franklin Clinton (Grand Theft Auto: V)– Franklin Clinton is the first character we get introduced to in Grand Theft Auto V. According to many players and the storyline, Franklin is the only good character in GTA V, as he is one of the few characters who is not a maniac or is without severe issues as compared to the other two protagonists of the game, Michael and Trevor. He helps out anyone he can. He plans out his approach to everything and cares for his friends deeply and is ready to risk his life just to save someone he loves.

4. Claude (Grand Theft Auto: III)– Claude is the first character we get introduced to in the Grand Theft Auto universe. He is a silent prodigy but pays no heed to anyone that stands in his way. He is introduced as the new love interest of Catalina in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, where they both leave for Liberty City and commit robberies together.

Many players question his character as a protagonist, since he has no dialogues, doesn’t speak a word and does everything he is told to without any questions put forth. However due to his commitment to his bosses and amazing storyline, players love his character and play GTA III over and over again.

5. Nico Bellic (Grand Theft Auto: IV)– Despite Grand Theft Auto not being very popular among gamers, some love it for the protagonist of the game, Nico Bellic. He is a mixture of a badass, respectful and a calm person. He is incredibly loyal, likes revenge and has a good heart. He spares people who wrote him in the past.

He desires money like all the other protagonists, but he specifically wants it to live a peaceful life because his life, until the story of GTA IV, was miserable. Nico participated in the war and his pain is very aptly portrayed in his voice. Overall, he makes the storyline more meaningful and more believable.

The protagonists of all GTA games have very diverse characteristics and have earned massive respect across the gaming world, despite of their actions in the games.
