Top 5 raids of today’s PKL matches | 28 December 2021

The final day of Game Week 1 in the PKL saw two exciting encounters as the Patna Pirates took on the Puneri Paltan in a one-sided win dominating their opposition in both offense and defense. Puneri Paltan fans will be disappointed after no raider from their side left an impact against the Pirates.

In the second game, Haryana Steelers registered their first win of the season as they beat Telugu Titans 37-39 in a thrilling contest. Both games saw some exhilarating raiding performances and let’s take a look at the top five raids for the day in the PKL.

#5 Sachin against Puneri Paltan in PKL 8 – 2 points

Sachin was the star for Patna Pirates tonight, given the responsibility as Patna’s ace raider tonight with Monu Goyat taking a reserved approach the raider grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

In the first half of the game, Sachin produced a stellar two-point raid as he dived under the chain of the covers, to touch the midline and score two points for his team.

#4 Aslam Inamdar against Patna Pirates – 2 points

Aslam Inamdar has been on double duties for the last two games as star raiders such as Rahul Chaudhari and Nitin Tomar have been underperforming so far in the PKL.

Aslam scored six points for his team in total which included a two-point raid as he stole a bonus point from the right corner and then shrugged an ankle hold attempt to score two points for his side.

#3 Monu Goyat against Puneri Paltan – 3 technical points

Monu Goyat looked more serious tonight, he left the raiding duties to his other teammates and played like a mature senior player who frequently rotated his players to keep the defense guessing.

Despite an average performance, Monu’s raid in the 12th minute of the first half changed the entire story of the game. Pirates were trailing by 3 points and were down to two men on a verge of an all-out when Monu baited three defenders into following him into the lobby without any struggle giving his side three technical points turning the tide of the game in favor of the Patna Pirates.

#2 Meetu Mahender against Telugu Titans – 2 points

With skipper Vikash Kandola, unable to score the bulk for his team tonight. It was on Meetu Mahender and Rohit Gulia to score the majority of raid points for his team. The raider was brilliant tonight scoring a super ten against the Titans.

Seven minutes into the first half, Meetu produced a stellar two-point raid as he shuffled against a six-man defense and as soon as he found his opening, the player dived under the chain brought in by the defenders at the cover to score two points for his team.

#1 Ankit Beniwal against Haryana Steelers – 3 points (Super Raid)

Ankit Beniwal was subbed in for skipper Rohit Kumar by the Telugu Titans who has yet to find his lost form this season, Beniwal played a crucial support role to Siddharth Desai in the game but will be upset with how the result turned out in the end.

Despite the negative result, Ankit had the best raid in the entire day as he produced the only super raid tonight, picking up a bonus point under the left corner and then escaping a double-thigh hold attempt by the cover and the supporting defender to reach the midline.
