In recent years, the Laver Cup has brought indelible memories to tennis fans as some of the best players have participated in the competition. Following an entertaining end of the event on Sunday (September 22), top agent and Laver Cup co-owner Tony Godsick has expressed his desire to see Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal work together as captains at the competition.

Federer has been an integral member of the Laver Cup. He featured for Team Europe in the maiden event in 2017. The Swiss legend helped Team Europe triumph over Team World 15-9 to win the title. He also played his final career professional match at the event in 2022. However, he failed to win the title, as Team World claimed their first Laver Cup.

The same cannot be said for Nadal. The Spaniard featured in the 2022 event because his close rival and friend Federer was hanging up his racket after the tournament. He was supposed to feature in the 2024 edition but he pulled out due to fitness concerns.

After a successful seven years, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg are stepping down as captains of Team World and Team Europe, respectively. Andre Agassi will take over from McEnroe in the 2025 edition while Yannick Noah is set to replace Borg. Notwithstanding, Godsick believes that Federer and Nadal can become captains at the event in the future.

I hope so. My dream is for Roger to be captain and Rafa to be assistant, and then the other way around. This way, they would be in charge for longer. The rivalry they had on the court was very special, but I think their friendship off the court is even more special. They are a clear example that all competitors can get along.

Team Europe claimed the 2024 edition of the Laver Cup in Berlin, with Federer in attendance for the three-day event. It was Team Europe’s fifth time winning the competition, ending Team World’s two-year winning streak.
