India is locking-horns with England in the first of the three-match T20I on July 7 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground in Southampton. A combined efforts from the middle-order batsmen helped India post a challenging target of 198. It will be interesting to watch how English batsmen would reach it.

India is led by Rohit Sharma while England’s captain is Jos Buttler. Rohit had won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision proved best for them later as the visitor kept adding runs to the score board. The Indian batsmen’s had the mindset of playing attacking cricket and that’s what they displayed on the field.

Rohit and Ishan Kishan opened the innings and both of them departed soon. The duo of Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav took the responsibility and smashed some good shots. Hooda scored a 17-ball 33 with three boundaries and two sixes while Suryakumar smashed four boundaries and two sixes to score a 19-ball 39 runs.

Chris Jordan relieved the English side by dismissing Hooda with a length ball that was angled down the leg. Hooda had gone for a pull shot but Tymal Mills did no mistake and caught it. The same bowler sent back Suryakumat with a well-directed short ball on middle. Suryakumar also tried to pull it but missed it. But England made a huge appeal, and when the dismissal wasn’t not given, they went upstairs to the third upmire. The review showed a spike as the ball had passed the gloves. This ended Suryakumar’s innings.

But that didn’t worry India because Hardik Pandya kept playing shots. He smashed six boundaries and a six to score 51 runs off 33 balls before Reece Topley’s full ball made Pandya throw his bat at it, which made the ball lost towards the sweeper cover where Harry Brook did no mistake while taking that sharp catch.

Axar Patel and Dinesh Karthik also added some good runs to finish the innings with their 17 and 11 runs respectively. In the end, India scored 198/8 in their alloted 20 overs.
