The Indian Premier League has been the best cricket league for budding talents, in the shortest format of the game. While both batters and bowlers have dominated the league for the last 18 years, the last few seasons have heavily shifted in favor of the batsmen.
IPL has seen several batting talents emerge over the years, with fans being able to witness some impressive and game-changing centuries. The 24-year-old Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya, most recently, scored a brilliant 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings, while helping his side post a massive total of 219/6, in a match that PBKS eventually won by 18 runs.
Arya’s brilliant innings reminded fans of the first IPL centurion, Manish Pandey. Pandey, at 19 years old, became the first Indian to score a hundred in the tournament, in 2009. He also became the youngest to achieve this feat, as he scored 114 runs off 73 balls in a match between his side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Deccan Chargers.

Since then, 103 centuries have been scored in the tournament by 55 different batters, out of which 29 are Indian players. Indian cricket star Virat Kohli heads the list of centurions in the IPL, having hit eight of them. Ex-RCB opener Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest IPL century, coming off just 30 balls. His record-breaking innings of 175 runs off just 66 balls, came against Pune Warriors India, in 2013.

Moreover, the last two IPL seasons have seen the most number of hundreds being scored, 12 in 2023, and 14 in 2024. With Priyansh Arya being the latest batter to add his name to the elite list of IPL centurions, here is a look at the fastest hundreds by Indians in the IPL.
Yusuf Pathan (Rajasthan Royals) – 37 balls
Ex-India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan still tops the list of Indian players with the fastest hundreds in the IPL. Pathan scored a blistering knock of 100 runs off just 37 balls for Rajasthan Royals, in a 2010 IPL match against Mumbai Indians, at the Brabourne Stadium. He struck nine boundaries and eight sixes at a strike rate of 270.27 in a thrilling chase of 213 runs against MI.

However, RR lost the match by four runs, despite Pathan’s heroics. With 143 needed off the last 57 balls, he hit 54 runs off his next 11 deliveries. The carnage continued until the end, before he was run out by R. Satish in the 18th over of the match.
Priyansh Arya (Punjab Kings) – 39 balls
Adding his name to the list most recently, Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya scored a century off just 39 balls against CSK, to become the joint fourth-fastest IPL centurion, alongside Travis Head. He also became the second fastest Indian player to hit a century in the league. Arya’s knock comprised seven boundaries and nine sixes, hitting the CSK bowlers all around the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium.

Moreover, the 24-year-old also became only the second player in the IPL, to begin the innings with a first-ball six. With three consecutive sixes and a four off Matheesha Pathirana’s over, Priyansh Arya brought up his century in the 13th over, in just his fourth IPL appearance.
Mayank Agarwal (Kings XI Punjab) – 45 balls
Third on the list is Mayank Agarwal. Back in the 2020 IPL season, Agarwal went on to score his maiden IPL hundred for the Kings XI Punjab, in a match against Rajasthan Royals at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. He brought up his century off just 45 balls, in an innings that comprised ten fours and seven sixes, while helping Punjab post a massive first innings total of 223 runs.

However, despite Mayank Agarwal’s steller innings, he ended up on the losing side, as RR went on to win the match by four wickets. Meanwhile, the former Indian opener ended the 2020 IPL season with a total of 424 runs in 11 matches for Punjab, at an average of 38.54.
Ishan Kishan (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 45 balls
The only other centurion of the 2025 IPL season is Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Ishan Kishan. The 26-year-old wicket-keeper batter slammed an unbeaten 106 runs off just 47 balls in a match against Rajasthan Royals, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It helped SRH post a massive total of 286 runs, only one run short of their IPL record.

For Ishan Kishan, who has scored over 2700 runs in the IPL, it marked his first century in his ten-year long franchise cricket career. His innings consisted of 11 boundaries and six sixes, as he managed to remain unbeaten until the end of the innings.
Murali Vijay (Chennai Super Kings) – 46 balls
The last player on this list is former Chennai Super Kings opener Murali Vijay. Vijay scored a hundred off just 46 balls, while ending the match with an individual score of 127 runs off just 56 balls. He helped CSK post its highest-ever IPL total of 246 runs, against Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk, in the 2010 season.

Murali Vijay’s innings consisted of 11 fours and eight sixes, which made it all the more entertaining to watch. He hit all the RR bowlers, including legend Shane Warne, at an impressive strike rate of 226.78. CSK went on to win the match by 23 runs, with RR ending the innings at 223/5.
