World No. 2 Novak Djokovic accused the Centre Court crowd of booing him during his fourth-round match against Holger Rune at the Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian has had a hot and cold relationship with fans over the years and journalist Benoit Maylin has stated that he cannot get love from everyone all the time.
Fans chanted for Rune’s winners while booing Djokovic’s error during their clash. The Serbian reacted on several occasions by giving the fans a piece of his mind in between sets to show how upset he was. He did use that to his advantage to register a clinical straight-sets win.
Later, Maylin stated that Djokovic’s reaction was a sign of frustration and stressed that he cannot always be loved by fans everywhere.
There are always guys who adore him but he doesn’t feel that kind of 100% love around a court and it’s true that logically, everyone should adore him, he’s the best. I think he is experiencing it very, very badly even if it is not new, it has been going on for years. These are reactions of frustration, this guy wants that constant love from everyone, and he’ll never get it.

Novak Djokovic hits backs at Wimbledon crowd for booing him during his match against Holger Rune
Novak Djokovic has been booed by the Centre Court crowd many times before. During the 2019 final against Roger Federer, the Serbian denied the Swiss maestro his ninth title and had to bear the ire of the fans. Later, against home favorite Cameron Norrie in the semifinals in 2022, he was frustrated by the fans and blew a kiss to them after winning the match.
When asked about the chants by the crowd while playing against Holger Rune yesterday, he admitted he knew their tricks as he was not new to experiencing those emotions.
I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse to also boo. I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks.

Djokovic has won several titles in his career despite the crowd going against him. He will hope to use the motivation of disappointing fans as he mounts a title challenge at Wimbledon.
