Novak Djokovic‘s run on the Paris court came to an end when he suffered a meniscus tear as a consequence of slipping several times on the court during his fourth-round match against Francisco Cerundolo. He then expressed his uncertainty over participating in the quarterfinal against Casper Ruud. Though the tennis fraternity probably thought it was a minor injury, after the MRI scans, the Serb shocked them by withdrawing from the tournament.
Now, a Serbian psychiatrist, Dobrosav Melajac, explained how the 37-year-old will soon get healthy in just some weeks. Melajac pointed out that as the torn meniscus has been removed, it won’t take much time for him to return to tennis.
We are in the best possible configuration. It is encouraging that there does not appear to have been any major damage. His meniscus was simply clean. I think he'll be back in three weeks. In five to seven days, he will be able to start running in a straight line.Dobrosav Melajac told Sporklub
Djokovic’s injury raised doubts of his Wimbledon participation. If he does get back to the game before the event, then, although he can participate in it, his training might be affected by it.
Novak Djokovic undergoes successful surgery
Amidst rumors about Novak Djokovic ‘faking’ his injury, the Serb announced on Thursday (June 6) that he had successful surgery and is eager to get back on the court as soon as possible. He shared a post on his social media platforms announcing the same and also thanked the doctors.
In the past day, I had to make some tough decisions after sustaining a meniscus tear during my last match. I’m still processing it all but I am happy to update you that the surgery went well. I am so appreciative of the team of doctors who have been by my side…Novak Djokovic wrote on X

Djokovic’s withdrawal from the Roland Garros also ended his search to lift his first title of the season. Since the 2023 ATP Finals in November, the Serb has played five tournaments, including Roland Garros, without reaching the final in any events.
His campaign in Roland Garros, without a doubt, was much better than the other tournaments. He rose to the challenge and prevailed in five sets in tough matches, thereby sending the warning that he still had it in him and would do everything to become the Grand Slam champion for the 25th time until the unfortunate injury became the obstacle.
