After losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks made the dubious decision to fire coach Tom Thibodeau. Who would be better for the Knicks immediately after Thibodeau’s mostly successful tenure? Per ESPN reporter Shams Charania, the Knicks requested permission from the Atlanta Hawks to interview their HC, Quin Snyder.

However, their request was immediately turned down by the Hawks. It’s important to note that the Knicks and Hawks are arch-rivals; hence, many have been left baffled by the Knicks’ decision to approach the Hawks in the first place. One of them was the Hawks’ star man, Trae Young, who did not hold back his feelings regarding this matter. He had a sarcastic reply to Charania’s X post on the app.

Tray Young replied to Shams Charania, Hell nahh🤣

That was the appropriate thing to do, based on Trae Young’s response. This is not the first time Young and Snyder have supported one another throughout a difficult beginning to their time together. In addition, this marks the third formal “no” the Knicks have faced since their unexpected dismissal of Tom Thibodeau.

According to several reports, the Knicks have asked to speak with existing head coaches, including Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets. Quin Snyder, the head coach of the Hawks, can now be added to that list. Even NBA legend Kevin Garnett took a swipe at the Knicks, just like Young. Watch below:

Young enjoys portraying the antagonist, particularly about the Knicks and their supporters. When the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the second round, he claimed without provocation that the crowd was louder. Not to mention his notorious dice roll on the center-court logo of New York following their elimination from the NBA Cup against the Hawks.

Trae Young spoke about his bonding with Hawks HC Quinn Snyder

Nate McMillan, who was Lloyd Pierce‘s assistant at first, was dismissed in the middle of the season for Quinn Snyder after serving as head coach for one complete season and portions of two others, including the one he took over. Trae Young delivered a powerful remark in light of the Hawks’ recent hirings and talks regarding Snyder’s influence.

It’s not easy playing for Quin. But whenever you know how to run through a system, run through his offense, it’s – the game is so easy and so simple. And we showed a lot of moments and times last year we had that, and I’m just looking forward to this season and continuing to improve on that every game and be more consistent with it.

Trae Young said

Young played off the ball and even put forth more defensive effort under Snyder than he did under prior coaches. Snyder has also made an effort to alert the public to Young’s actions despite the Hawks having a difficult season. The Hawks’ HC stated that Young’s mental toughness has to be commended despite having a poor season overall.

The Knicks have had the upper hand over Trae Young and his side over the last 4 years

As far as their performances are concerned, the Hawks, compared to the Knicks, have been drastically poor. Hence, Young shouldn’t be a talker, though, even though he has Snyder and the Knicks don’t. After all, since Atlanta threw them out in 2021, New York has dominated and improved. The Hawks have regressed; therefore, the same cannot be said for them.

Young’s Hawks defeated the Knicks in five games in the opening round of the playoffs four years ago. After that, New York had a 10–6 advantage in their next 16 meetings. Atlanta has struggled to make it back to the playoffs, and has yet to return to the conference semifinals, forget being above .500.
