UFC 316 will erupt this Saturday at Prudential Center, New Jersey, with fans eagerly anticipating every second of top-tier action. Headlining the event, Sean O’Malley looks for redemption against Merab Dvalishvili, aiming to reclaim the bantamweight championship and settle their beef. Among the stacked matchups, Kevin Holland versus Vicente Luque stands out as a guaranteed war between two aggressive welterweights.
Ahead of the fight, UFC hosted the official pre-fight press conference with fighters getting a chance to trash talk each other. Holland, in his last bout, secured a strong win over Gunnar Nelson which helped him bounce back from previous tough losses. As a result, the American was extremely confident and during face-to-face staredown made some sneaky and NSFW remarks toward Luque.
I hope it’s a war… Sex is usually better after wars. You don’t think so? Or you don’t have sex?

While the comments were hilarious, they didn’t affect Luque at all as he kept an emotionless and focused expression throughout. The Brazilian fighter previously submitted Themba Gorimbo, which helped him recover from a painful TKO loss in his earlier appearance. He also earned Performance of the Night honors and is now determined to continue that same dangerous form at UFC 316.

Holland versus Luque was nearly made official when Ian Garry pulled out from UFC 296 due to severe pneumonia issues. Holland immediately offered to step in and face Luque at a 180-pound catchweight, which the Brazilian also accepted without hesitation. However, UFC decided not to go forward with that bout and instead promoted Josh Emmett vs. Bryce Mitchell to the main card.
This time, however, both fighters finally have the opportunity to fight each other and settle their long-standing rivalry inside the octagon. Heading into the fight, Holland is the betting favorite due to his crisp striking skills and clear reach advantage. However, Luque holds the wrestling edge over the ‘Trailblazer’ and could capitalize on that if the fight hits the mat.
Kevin Holland wants the worst welterweight next
The UFC welterweight division is one of the most competitive, filled with elite contenders like Shavkat Rakhmonov, Belal Muhammad, and Kamaru Usman. Every fighter must face dangerous opponents back-to-back, making it extremely difficult to secure a winning streak. A single loss can push a fighter several spots down the rankings, erasing months of hard work.

With constant pressure, rising stars must not only win but do so convincingly to earn title shots and remain relevant in this stacked weight class. In such a situation, Kevin Holland doesn’t see himself fighting any top fighters, but remains confident about beating Vicente Luque. The fighter is already looking past the Brazilian and has already called out the former welterweight title contender.
Whoever they give me next, I’m gonna take. I ain’t got no names listed out. I doubt it’s Belal, he’s won a lot of fights recently. I’m looking for the worst 170 guy that there is. So, I’m looking for like Colby Covington after this one.

Colby Covington‘s downfall has been shocking, especially after his most recent loss to rising contender Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa. He blamed the defeat on distractions, saying he missed crucial training time while campaigning and promoting during the recent election season.
Many fans felt disappointed, as Covington previously prided himself on cardio, pressure, and preparation, but clearly wasn’t himself that night. Despite the excuses, critics argue the game has evolved and Covington was no longer able to keep up competitively. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the ‘Chaos’ in the UFC welterweight division.
