Australia’s explosive batter, Travis Head, claims that there is no divide in the Australian dressing room and no rift between the batting order and the bowling attack in the team. Concerns about team unity arose after Josh Hazlewood suggested reporters should “ask the batters” about the challenge of chasing 534 runs against India in the first Test at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Head said that both the batting and bowling department of Australia have high expectations set on them. He also credited the bowlers for their performances and getting the team out of trouble consistently.

Head feels that if the batting order scores a good amount of runs, then the bowling attack will do the job for the team and they will be in a good position.

It can be put to bed. We hold high expectations for both sides (batting and bowling) and it’s a very individualized sport. So batters, we want to hold our own – we know how good our bowlers have been for us in the past and they’ve got us out of trouble a lot. As a batting group, we know that if we get enough runs on the board, we put ourselves in a great position. As a batter myself, I try to take a whole lot of pride in what I do, and knowing that if I can set it up for the big boys, that they can knock it down for us, so definitely no divide.

Australian captain Pat Cummins also dismissed any issues within the team, stating there are no problems whatsoever. He highlighted that the batters have stepped up to rescue the team on numerous occasions, just as the bowlers have done. Cummins mentioned that the team has played together cohesively over the past few years, sharing both the highs and lows as a united group.

This team has dealt with adversity well. The small amount that we have had in the last three or four years, we have played well. We’ve had some challenging times and a couple of challenging Tests last year that we’re able to get ourselves out of … it’s a group that is well balanced and knows where it’s at.

Travis Head said ahead of the Adelaide Test.

Head feels that nothing went their way in the first Test match against India as they were beaten by 295 runs in the Test match. However, he is optimistic that there are four more Test matches in the series and his team will do everything to get on the positive side in those games.

Head added that many teams have lost the first match of the series in the last few years and came back from that to win the Test series.
