Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head opened up about the secret behind teammate Abhishek Sharma’s ‘note’ celebration, following the win over Punjab Kings. Sharma had pulled out a note from his pocket in a celebratory gesture, after scoring an impressive century against PBKS.

Abhishek Sharma had a night to remember, as he bounced back to form with a masterclass innings against Punjab Kings. The 24-year-old opener, scored a breathtaking 141 runs off just 55 balls, to guide his team to victory. Sharma’s innings helped SRH record the second-highest chase in the history of the IPL, as they managed to chase down a target of 246 runs in just 18.3 overs against high-flying PBKS.

It marked SRH’s second win of the this season, after they slumped to four consecutive defeats recently. Batting first, Punjab posted a massive first innings total of 245 runs, with captain Shreyas Iyer emerging as the top-scorer. Iyer scored 82 runs off just 36 balls, while Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis hit some crucial knocks. For SRH, Harshal Patel claimed a four-wicket haul. 

However, in response, SRH showed off their batting brilliance, after having come off the back of a difficult start to the season. Pressure was understandably high on the SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The two players made the chase look like a cakewalk, as they stitched a massive 171-run opening partnership to help chase down the mammoth 246-run target.

Abhishek Sharma scored his maiden IPL hundred off just 40 balls, with his innings consisting of 14 four and ten sixes. As the young Indian batter reached the 100-run mark, he celebrated by raising his bat in the air and wildly pulling out a note from his pocket. The note read out, ‘This one is for the Orange Army’, as he dedicated his century to the SRH fans, who’ve supported the team through the ups and downs.

In a conversation with broadcasters after the game, fellow opener Travis Head, who assisted Sharma with his knock of 66 runs off 37 balls, surprisingly revealed that the note had been in the young Indian opener’s pocket since the start of the season. He added that it took the team six matches for the note to come out of Sharma’s pocket, as he went on to talk about SRH’s approach throughout the game. 

The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for 6 games, glad it came out tonight.

Meanwhile, MOTM Abhishek Sharma, speaking after the win, pointed to the positive atmosphere in the team, which helped chase down the massive target. He even gave a special shout out to his mentor and Indian cricketing legend Yuvraj Singh and India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for their support.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old broke several individual records in the process. His 141-run innings is the third-highest score by any batter in the IPL, only behind Chris Gayle’s 175* for RCB and Brendon McCullum’s 158* for KKR. Sharma’s innings was also the highest individual score by an Indian in the IPL, as well as the highest while chasing in the competition.

Abhishek Sharma took just 40 balls to complete his match-winning hundred, making him the sixth fastest centurion in the IPL, and the third-fastest Indian. Had he taken a ball less, he would have equaled PBKS prodigy Priyansh Arya and SRH teammate Travis Head’s joint-record of 39 balls.
