Travis Hunter, Colorado Buffaloes’ standout two-way player, has made a special request ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. He wants commissioner Roger Goodell to announce both of his positions—wide receiver and defensive back—when his name is called.

Hunter made his wish known during the Buffaloes’ pro day on Friday. The draft will be held from April 24 to 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is widely projected to be one of the top five picks.

Hunter played both offense and defense throughout his college career. He had a major impact on both sides of the ball and believes he deserves to be recognized as a true two-way player.

“He better say wide receiver and DB. He got to,” Hunter told CBS Sports with a smile during the pro day.

The 21-year-old had a historic season for Colorado in 2024. On offense, he recorded 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he had 35 tackles, four interceptions, and 11 passes defended.

Hunter also won the Heisman Trophy last season, becoming the first true two-way player to win it in decades. His performance has sparked national attention and raised interest from several NFL teams.

Though it remains unclear if the NFL team that drafts him will allow him to continue playing both roles, his intent is clear. Hunter has stated multiple times that he wants to play on both sides of the ball at the professional level.

I’d like to play both sides of the ball. If they give me the opportunity… I’m going to play both sides. I’ve been doing it for a long time. Don’t see why I can’t continue. They say nobody has ever done it for real the way I do it. I tell them I’m just different.

Cleveland Browns are sticking with either one of the Buffs’ boys Travis Hunter or Shedeur Sanders

Ahead of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders’ Colorado’s Pro Day brilliance in Boulder, head coach Deion Sanders made a striking prediction. After meeting Browns owner Jimmy Haslam for the first time, Sanders shared his belief that Cleveland could land one of Colorado’s star prospects in the upcoming draft.

“I think one of those guys will be there,” Sanders said confidently, referring to Hunter or his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

There’s growing speculation that the Browns, who hold the No. 2 overall pick, are seriously considering both players. Haslam wasn’t the only high-level executive present in Boulder. The Browns brought an extensive group, including general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski. In addition, the battalion also included EVP JW Johnson, assistant GMs Glenn Cook and Catherine Hickman, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, and quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave.

In a notable move, the Browns’ delegation also treated Hunter and Sanders to a private dinner during their visit. The effort put into that gathering suggests real interest, not just a routine scouting visit.

While Sanders’ comments may be part of the usual pre-draft mind games, the presence and actions of Cleveland’s top brass have added weight to the idea.
