One member of the 2025 Draft Class continues to be overlooked despite his remarkable achievements in the recent college football season. Heisman winner Travis Hunter nearly won every award that a wide receiver and defensive back could have earned for playing well. However, critics continue to doubt him and the noise questioning his carryover ability of playing offense and defense in the NFL has continued to get louder.

For Travis Hunter, no matter how loud the noise gets, it does not matter. Not because he has his signature JBuds earphones plugged into his ears but because of his unfettering confidence in his ability to do the unthinkable. Hunter will not be the first player in league history to play offense and defense, over the years, the likes of Julian Edelman and Adoree Jackson have played multiple positions but they did so for only a few games.

Travis Hunter intends to create history by becoming the first NFL player to play snaps on offense and defense night-in and night-out. His head coach and role model Deion Sanders has experience taking a few snaps as a wide receiver and playing punt returner but he was predominantly known for playing corner.

The generational phenom understands the doubt surrounding him. However, he gave a confident response when asked by the media about his intention to play cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL. “They say, nobody has ever done it for real, the way I do it. I tell them, ‘I’m just different,” Hunter said.

From his accomplishments in recent history, it is clear that Hunter is different. It is hard to fathom a player doing this in the NFL because of the level of physicality. In college, Hunter played against boys but now he will play against men. The primary concern is if he will be able to handle the level of physicality in the NFL. In terms of skill, there is no doubt that he can play receiver and corner.

Travis Hunter has been impressing scouts with his conduct

As the NFL Combine nears, Hunter has been busy meeting with the scouts of teams with the top 5 picks. His conduct and answers have been professional, a positive sign for his draft stock. The Tennessee Titans have the first overall pick in the draft and despite seeking a quarterback, they are willing to consider Travis Hunter due to his athletic prowess.

From an NFL team’s perspective, they get two for the price of one. The team’s Head Coach Brian Callahan was impressed with what he saw from Hunter over the last season. “He can return punts. He’s got a really unique skill set. I don’t think there’s many players you can compare him to,” he said when asked to share his thoughts on Hunter. The Titans are convinced that it is practical to expect him to play offense and defense regularly.

In his last season, Travis Hunter took 713 offensive snaps and 748 defensive snaps. That is a total of 1,484 snaps in a single season. Pro Football Focus gave him a 90.3 coverage grade and an 89.0 receiving grade for his performance.

If the Titans believe that Hunter can play both positions then it means that Will Levis could still keep his job as starting QB. Hopefully, Hunter can do the unthinkable. Players have strayed away from playing both sides of the ball because it means putting their bodies through double the workload, however, not everyone is built like Travis Hunter.
