Travis Hunter decided to get baptized last week. Being a devout Christian, Hunter fulfilled his desire to become a disciple of the Almighty. Hunter and his close ones celebrated the moment, unaware of the consequences this act would present. While one section congratulated Hunter for embracing his calling, individuals such as Skip Bayless questioned the timing of the baptism.
Recently, a reporter asked the Jacksonville Jaguars’ two-way star the reason behind his sudden urge to get baptized.
That’s a crazy question. Why did I get baptized? It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day. And I’ve been planning to get baptized for a minute. You know, I want to change my life forward, become a better man.
Travis Hunter replied
According to a piece by ESPN, Hunter had been planning to get baptized for a while. The local church instructed him to go through the ceremony on the morning of October 12. Coincidentally, the Jaguars were scheduled to play the Seattle Seahawks later that day.
Even though Hunter played a good game, racking up 4 catches for 15 yards in the offense and 4 total tackles as a corner, the Jaguars succumbed to their second defeat of the season. Moments after the game, veteran football analyst Skip Bayless had this to say about Hunter’s baptism:
Allow me to tell you why there was no way Travis Hunter should have chosen to be baptized on the morning of a 1 o’clock game in Jacksonville… Travis Hunter is starting to lose interest. He’s starting to check out mentally on the Jags, so he was actually happy to be baptized on a gameday morning. Because football isn’t taking that much concentration, or focus, or pre-game mental preparation. Nope, not now.
It doesn’t require a rocket scientist to understand that Bayless did not appreciate Hunter’s decision. Regardless of what Bayless believes, the 22-year-old is happy with choosing GOD to light his path.
It means a lot. You know, becoming a better man, leaving my old flesh and just becoming the new Travis.

Travis Hunter received positive news before the Jaguars’ week seven fixture
Despite being a rookie, the Jaguars have slowly increased Hunter’s snap count across the six weeks. According to head coach Liam Ceon, they are planning to double Hunter’s touches in the offense, which will, in return, help lower Brian Thomas Jr.’s dropped pass count.

Thomas’ rookie season was electric. He quickly established himself as an emerging talent from day one, finishing with 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
There’s no question that Thomas is extremely skilled as a receiver, but the LSU graduate has made a few sloppy errors in his second year in Jacksonville. Six dropped catches and short-arming at least three more attempts thrown over the middle have contributed to key losses of yards and points.

Any NFL receiver should be able to make this catch.

Coen has discovered a loophole that may well be the answer to all the hiccups in the offense: throw Hunter the ball more often.
Our job as an offensive staff is to make sure we’re putting him in the progression and putting him in the position to be [target] No. 1 a little bit more often in some ways.

This is welcome news for Hunter and his fantasy managers. His numbers could skyrocket after posting 20 receptions for 197 yards while playing 63% of the team’s offensive snaps.
The Jaguars drafted Hunter second overall in 2025 after making a trade with the Cleveland Browns. He played three years of college football, racking up 171 catches for 2167 yards and 24 touchdowns as a receiver and 80 combined tackles and 9 interceptions as a defensive back.
