With each passing week, Travis Hunter is solidifying his draft projection of first overall pick and his best odds at winning the Heisman trophy this season. And when the opportunity to declare his claim to the honor presented itself on Sunday, the junior wide receiver struck the iconic Heisman pose. 

In the Colorado Buffaloes’ victory over the Utah Utes, the two-way superstar showcased his brilliance and collected his third interception of the season. It happened late in the first quarter when Utah quarterback Issac Wilson attempted a pass, but it ended up being deflected into the air by cornerback Colton Hood

The star wide receiver instantly picked off the pass and returned for 21 yards, collecting his third interception and eighth of his college career. To celebrate the pick, Hunter struck the Heisman pose, since he is also the favorite to win it, as the camera panned at him.

This college football season, Colorado qualified for bowl eligibility for the first time in eight years. The two-way superstar is having a thrilling season and is an integral part of Colorado’s success. And Sunday’s game was another testament to his brilliance on both sides of the ball. Going into the game, Hunter had 69 receptions for 856 yards and nine touchdowns, in addition to 21 tackles, two interceptions (now three), seven pass deflections, and one forced fumble. 

Shedeur Sanders calls Travis Hunter ‘best player in the country’

The Buffs moved another step closer to becoming Big 12 contenders after an impressive 49-24 win. Star wideout Hunter had an exceptionally solid performance with five receptions for 55 yards offensively. It was also the third game where he recorded both a touchdown and interception, making his case for the Heisman Trophy more strong.

He’s the best player in the country, hands down, no doubt. There’s not a lot of guys who could do what he does on offense and defense. It’s tough to compare him to anyone else.”

Shedeur Sanders said in the post-game press conference about Hunter’s performance.

Hunter entered Sunday’s game as the frontrunner for the Heisman honor and his odds have only improved. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, he is leading with -140 to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy, followed by Ashton Jeanty with +360 and Dillon Gabriel with +400 odds. 

In the next two weeks, Colorado will face Kansas and Oklahoma State where they’ll start as heavy favorites. They are projected to end the season with a solid 10-2 record.
