Directed by Kyle Newacheck, Happy Gilmore 2 is an upcoming sports comedy starring Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, and Dennis Dugan. The Happy Gilmore (1996) sequel also features some surprise stars: Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and famed singer Bad Bunny, aka Benito Ocasio, in small roles.
The sequel sees Happy Gilmore (portrayed by Adam Sandler), a retired golfer, coming out of retirement after 29 years since he won his first Tour championship. The movie has a star-studded sports cast with several golfers like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Nelly Korda, among others. There’s also representation from the wrestling, with Maxwell Jacob Friedman portraying one of Sandler’s sons and cameos from Nikki Garcia and Becky Lynch.
Golfer John Daly was among the first to reveal that Travis Kelce would appear in the movie. Later on, Adam Sandler himself confirmed the news. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sandler praised Kelce ahead of the film’s dropping on Netflix on Friday:
Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell. He’s like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school, and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.
Sandler also added that Kelce is “a stud” and “a great actor and a great human.”
For Kelce, the opportunity to work with comedy legend Adam Sandler was a dream realized. In January, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he admitted that he thought SNL was going to be the peak of his career in acting and the entertainment industry. He also acknowledged the golden opportunity and his happiness for being given a role.
Julie Bowen, who plays Virginia Venit, Sandler’s love interest, also praised the tight end’s acting chops. She noted that Kelce is a star and always has been a star. Travis Kelce seems to be playing some kind of waiter in the upcoming movie, while the Bailame singer is Happy Gilmore’s caddie. Bowen called Bad Bunny “amazing.”

Thelma and Louise antagonist Christopher McDonald also praised Travis Kelce
Christopher McDonald will reprise his iconic role as Shooter McGavin, who was an arrogant golfer who despised Happy Gilmore and his lack of etiquette. McGavin was the primary antagonist whom Gilmore defeated in the Tour Championship to become the winner.

In a recent interview with People, McDonald shared his thoughts on working with the NFL standout. He also commented positively on Travis Kelce’s acting abilities while noting that he was surprisingly good.
“Travis Kelce has been out there, and I just really liked him as a person. He is really funny. Way too handsome, by the way, but really a good actor actually,” McDonald said.
The Chiefs’ tight end also impressed with his golf skills, though McDonald admitted they didn’t get a chance to play a round together during filming. Kelce, a golf lover, was recently seen at the American Century Championship Class hosted near Lake Tahoe.
The tight end has previously appeared as a host of Saturday Night Live and acted in a double role in an American Horror Story’s distant cousin show, Grotesquerie.
Travis Kelce’s dual portrayal of Eddie in Grotesquerie was highly praised for portraying two contrasting characters. He portrayed a clean-cut, recovering alcoholic and a messy, mulleted Cinnabon worker in the series. He efficiently switched between two different personas and added a layer of intrigue.
