Amidst the intense backlash Harrison Butker has been getting since his controversial commencement speech at the Benedictine College graduation ceremony, people within the industry have been very careful with their words while commenting on it. While most have dissociated themselves from the conservative ideology of the star kicker, Travis Kelce’s response to it has shocked everyone. 

Contrary to the statement made by two of the closest people in Travis’ life, Jason Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, who entirely denied sharing Butker’s ideology– the tight end claimed he doesn’t agree with most parts of it, but not all.

Similar to Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star TE also defended his teammate, saying he isn’t going to judge him over his views, especially when it comes to religion and life. But he “cherishes” Butker as a teammate for the way he treats everyone with respect and kindness. 

However, Travis did speak in contrast to Butker’s sexist comment about women embracing the role of homemaker. Using the example of his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce– the nine-time Pro Bowler said both of his parents were homemakers as well as providers.

Unfortunately for Travis, fans on the Internet didn’t seem to like his diplomatic comment on the Chiefs star kicker’s controversial speech. They called out the three-time Super Bowl champion siding with the locker room and allegedly saying whatever he wants to earn the next big paycheck.

One fan wrote, “[Taylor] Swift has consumed his brain,” while another wrote, “Double quadruple vaxxed Travis Kelce Swift laying down the law in that locker room.” Here are some of the fan reactions: 

Netizens were particularly angry with Travis for his diplomatic response because Butker indirectly made a sexist remark on Taylor Swift as well, by addressing her as “his teammate’s girlfriend,” and ignoring her enormous $1.1 billion worth of success.
