While the entire NFL community is buzzing with the Kansas City Chiefs’ pursuit of the historic three-peat, star tight end Travis Kelce once again set the record straight: the team isn’t preoccupied with the idea of making history. Their primary focus is defeating their opponents in the upcoming Super Bowl rather than dwelling on accolades.
In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, the Chiefs All-Pro tight end was asked by his brother Jason Kelce about the team’s focus on achieving the three-peat, given that they already made a record by becoming the first team in history to advance to the Super Bowl three times in a row. But for Travis, it’s all about winning another championship.
Travis’ candid response highlights a refreshing mindset within the Chiefs organization, especially in him as they prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles once again. While talking on the subject, he also emphasized that discussions about the potential three-peat have not been part of the team’s internal conversations in the locker room.
When the ESPN analyst jokingly probed if the team talks about the three-peat “nonstop,” Travis responded with sarcasm, gesturing three fingers and saying, “Yeah every day just… I look at Pat [Patrick Mahomes] every single day and just like…” as the two burst into laughter. He quickly clarified that such discussions are non-existent within their locker room, underscoring the team’s commitment to focusing on the task rather than getting caught up in historical narratives.
Travis Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes emphasizes season focus amid three-peat discussions
His teammate and best friend Patrick Mahomes echoed the ten-time Pro Bowler’s sentiments following the AFC Championship feat. Despite the chance to solidify their legacy as one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history, Mahomes stated that he primarily focuses on the existing season he is playing, not on the bigger picture of achieving the historic three-peat.
As the Chiefs now head into New Orleans for the big game on February 9, all eyes will be on whether this determination mindset can lead them to another victory– the third consecutive and fifth in the last six years.
