The world witnessed a different side of Travis Kelce during Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast. The usually cheerful and boisterous Kelce was missing. His change in mood did not come as a surprise, given the league position the Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in.

Two straight defeats against the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans have left the Chiefs stranded on a 6-7 record. It’s a scenario number unheard of in the Patrick Mahomes era.

Kelce, of course, has been around in the league a lot longer, but even for him, this is uncharted territory. At 36, he came back for his thirteenth season in KC, hoping to wrap up his career on a high note with a fourth championship ring. Despite leading the Chiefs’ receivers with 60 catches for 727 yards and 5 touchdowns, lately he has shown signs of losing focus.

You put in all this (expletive) work and hope that it pays off. And right now, it’s just for whatever (expletive) reason, man, it’s little things. I feel like I’ve always had the answers in years past. And this year, I just can’t find them.

Travis Kelce told his older brother and retired Eagles center Jason Kelce

The Chiefs’ receivers dropped the second-most catches in 2025. Kelce has contributed 8 of them, and three led to touchdowns for the opposition. In the Texans game alone, Kelce dropped two—one of which was a crucial fourth-quarter drop.

It’s a (expletive) feeling, especially dropping the (expletive) ball late in the game like that when we were on our last (expletive) chance to make something shake. It’s a (expletive) feeling, man. You put in all this work to be there for your guys.

Kelce’s contract runs out at the end of the current season. When asked about his retirement, the all-pro tight end claimed that he wants to give the team a fair chance before walking away into the wilderness.

I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, or whether they want me back or not. I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.

The Chiefs are on the playoff bubble with just four games remaining. They can still sneak through the wildcard. A win against the Texans would have skyrocketed the Chiefs’ chances to 56%, but the loss meant they had a 16% chance of playing January football. However, that dropped to just 10% after the Chargers defeated the Eagles on Monday night. It will shoot back up if the Chiefs beat the Chargers in Week 15.

The Kelce brothers shared their thoughts on the Indianapolis Colts’ signing of Philip Rivers

Over the weekend, the Colts lost Daniel Jones to a season-ending leg injury in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts are 8-5 and among the teams standing between the Chiefs and the playoffs.

With Anthony Richardson on IR and rookie Riley Leonard carrying an injury, the Colts took a drastic decision. They persuaded former quarterback Philip Rivers to come out of retirement. 44-year-old and recently turned grandfather, Rivers answered the call and could make his debut for the Colts as early as the Seattle Seahawks game in Week 15.

The Kelce brothers discussed the most discussed topic on their podcast. Travis revealed that he’s very excited to see Rivers sling the ball once again. However, Jason is a bit concerned about whether Rivers can handle playing quarterback after nearly five years away from the action.

It’s hard to imagine a guy that hasn’t played football in five years, is 44, is still going to be able to physically do it… [But] As a fan, I cannot wait to watch a grandpa go out there and sling this (expletive) thing. I hope he is starting this week. I want to see it so bad.

Although the Chiefs defeated the Colts 23-20 in Week 12, Travis Kelce doesn’t remember that game fondly. He had just 1 catch for 1 yard across four quarters of football.
