Kansas City Chiefs, leading the NFL with a six-game winning streak, are said to be the strongest team, however, the picture is quite different when focused on its players individually. As many pundits have highlighted, quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been up to his standard this season. But if there’s anything that’s gluing the whole team together, it is head coach Andy Reid.
The Chiefs are coming off a brilliant 28-18 victory against the San Francisco 49ers, which was also referred to as the Super Bowl rematch. This victory not only made them the favorite to win the Super Bowl but also improved Reid to a 22-4 record– the highest winning percentage after a bye week in the league’s history.
With this record on display, Jason Kelce asked the most anticipated question about Reid’s strategy in the bye weeks which increased their chances of winning five times. In a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, the ESPN analyst asked his brother, Travis Kelce whether the Chiefs’ head coach has a different approach for the bye week than the other NFL coaches.

While praising Reid’s ability to challenge the players as well as coaches to put the team in the best positions, Travis shared that the extra bye week gives his head coach time to put together a gameplan and he follows it better than everyone for his team.
Andy Reid’s Chiefs prepare for the road to a third consecutive title
Across the league, Kansas City is aiming for the hardest goal of a three-peat, which has never been done before in history. However, being in the spirit of regular games with back-to-back matches every single week, they often forget to look at the bigger picture and identify their weak points.
The bye week provides them with this crucial opportunity to take a step back and analyze their performance in all previous games. And if needed, amend their game approach for guaranteed results. Reid also admitted that the bye week allows his players to improve their performance through continual self-scout.
The future Hall of Fame head coach is on his way to imposing the scariest team in the league as the top-seeded in the AFC. Although it’s still early to determine the outcome, Reid has certainly utilized the bye week to analyze the team and develop a strategy aimed at achieving the historic three-peat.
