Andy Reid lost his patience with Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach was filmed screaming at his tight end in Sunday’s game (September 21).

The Chiefs were looking to get back to winning ways after an 0-2 start to the season. Kelce experienced a rough start to his thirteenth season, racking up just 6 receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown heading into the week three fixture against the New York Giants.

Sunday, in a similar fashion to last week, quarterback Patrick Mahomes found it hard to connect with his trusted receiver. On one occasion, Mahomes faked a pass twice to get Kelce open, but threw behind him to end the drive.

Kelce’s night worsened after he caught a pass for minus-2 yards, leading the Chiefs to try out for two points. To add insult to injury, kicker Harrison Butker missed the field goal from 40 yards.

TV cameras turned to the Chiefs’ dugout to survey the mood when they caught coach Reid bumping his shoulder in anger against Travis Kelce. The half ended with the Chiefs leading 9-6.

During the break, the on-field reporter asked Reid to explain the heated moment to the folks back home. The veteran claimed that everything was “good” between the two, and Kelce needed some “juice.”

It’s unclear what either of them said to each other.

Kelce’s outburst wasn’t an isolated affair. Last week as well, Kelce lost his temper after he helped the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense record an interception near the goal line. The 36-year-old later blamed himself for failing to lock down the catch and for his reaction on the sidelines.

It makes sense that an athlete of Kelce’s caliber will find it frustrating if he’s not involved in the game too much. He had the choice of walking away from football at the end of the last campaign, and yet he chose to return because the Chiefs failed to win the Super Bowl.

Additionally, the Chiefs lost their first two games of the current campaign. The Chargers defeated them in Brazil, and the Super Bowl rematch ended in heartbreak.

It made week three important. Fortunately, they faced another 0-2 team, the Giants of the Big Apple. Vegas gave the Chiefs a 76% chance of securing their first-ever win against the G-Men.

Pressure mounted with each passing minute for Kelce. First half ended with just two catches, and at full time, his tally increased to 4 for 26 yards.

At the post-match press conference, curious reporters waited patiently to hear about Kelce from Reid.

I love Travis’ passion, man. We need more of that. . . He knows when to back off the pedal and when to push it, too. . . Sometimes I have to be the policeman.

While Kelce made little to no impact in the game, receiver Tyquan Thornton had a blast. He finished with 71 yards on 5 catches and one touchdown. His connection with Mahomes proved pivotal in the absence of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

Both of them. Back-to-back, Pat [Mahomes] went to him. It was a nice job making the second one go there. He’s showing some things. He’s a guy that JuJu spoke highly of. I mentioned Bill Belichick. He’s come here and done nothing but work hard. I’m happy for him to get the opportunity.

Mahomes surpassed HOF and Cowboys’ legendary quarterback Troy Aikman in career passing yards, days after turning 30. He threw 22 completions from 37 tries for 224 yards and one touchdown.

Very few teams have qualified for the playoffs after starting with two losses. The Chiefs could write their name on that list after a statement win against the Giants. Up next, they are at home against the Baltimore Ravens.
