In Short
  • Travis Kelce is returning for his 14th season with the Kansas City Chiefs after a disappointing previous season.
  • Kelce credits his fiancée, Taylor Swift, as a motivating factor for his decision to continue playing football.
  • The Chiefs aim to prove critics wrong and are focused on improving after last season's struggles.

Kansas City Chiefs fans are ecstatic that Travis Kelce is returning to the franchise for what would be his 14th season with the team he has won three Super Bowls.

The previous season did not go at all as expected, leaving many to speculate that the superstar tight end might call it quits. But it was the manner in which his season ended that also had many wondering if he wanted to go out of the game that way.

Losing quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a season-ending ACL tear, then having to play with their third-string QB, and then missing out on the playoffs for the first time in a decade are not scenarios a standout player wants his career graph to end with.

As time passed, the Chiefs made it clear they were ready for either scenario. However, when free agency opened, fans got the news they wanted after Travis Kelce put pen to paper on a one-year deal that could net him up to $15 million with bonuses.

We share the same love for what we do. Fortunately, we’ve had this desire since we were kids… It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about… Still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does. Of course, that’s motivating.

Travis Kelce told Pat McAfee

This was the 36-year-old’s response when Pat McAfee asked if being in the same household as Taylor Swift motivated him to return for his 14th season. It seems the multiple Grammy Award-winner’s pursuit of continuing her musical journey inspired her fiance to do the same.

Travis Kelce claims Chiefs are hungry to fix last year’s mistakes

Heading into his 14th season, the Kansas City Chiefs are not going to have the target on their backs like before. After their humiliating end to last season, and with Patrick Mahomes’ injury and their roster problems, not many are high on the franchise returning to the Super Bowl.

We’ve gotta be hungrier than we’ve ever been before. Talking to Pat (Patrick Mahomes), talking to coach Reid and the guys… There’s a lot of dawg mentality right now to get this thing fixed.

Travis Kelce replied

This was the 11-time Pro Bowler’s response when asked if he was back at the training facilities to fix the wrongs of last season. Kelce admitted that he still has not scheduled a return, but is inching to do so.

He also revealed that the mindset around the team is that they want to prove to the world that they are not a fading dynasty. Moreover, they are also using all the negativity surrounding the franchise to fuel them.

Travis Kelce and Chiefs are aware of all the noise

During Travis Kelce‘s conversation with Pat McAfee, the former punter discussed how, with the improvements across AFC teams and how their season ended last year, fans and the media are not high on the Kansas City Chiefs.

We are seeing what the world is doing right now, and we are seeing how the world is reacting. But we know we got the nucleus in Kansas City… We are never out of this thing… We hear it all, though.

Travis Kelce replied

This was the Cleveland native’s response, suggesting that his Chiefs teammates are well aware of what everyone is talking about and how the rest of the AFC is improving.

At the same time, Kelce believes that this could be the best thing for his Chiefs, as they have a nucleus that no one else has, and this negative noise will only push them to do better when the season comes around. It seems the Chiefs are motivated to prove their doubters wrong.
